Who: Padmé and Much Older Anakin
What: Spending time together, talking about the future
When: Backdated to Thursday night
Where: Their quarters
Rating/Warnings: Probably low
Status: In progress/Closed

Anakin handed the two cups to the staff member who had come up to retrieve the place setting he and Padmé had used for the evening meal. And when the staff member wheeled out the cart, he Forced the few tribbles that had fallen through the door way back out into the hall before shutting the door soundly. Their rooms were completely tribble-free and he would like to keep it that way.

He turned back to Padmé, unsure what he should be doing. They were both still uncertain about their new age difference arrangement. He wanted to make her happy and comfortable with what had happened, but he didn’t know how. When it came to Padmé he was, as ever, waiting for her to make the first move.

Looking at her he was again struck but how young Padmé was, and he was reminded how she must be arrested by a similar notion when she looked at him. Being twice her age now, he must seem so old to her, and he wondered if she was concerned about those twenty-three years of lived experience he had now. A few blinks and he remembered himself, though, and not want to be off-putting he dropped his gaze.

“Are you still up for spending the evening?” he asked hopefully. There was a chance that after everything today, work, their meal, Padmé might not have the energy for anything after dinner.

Padmé tried, a good deal of the time, to be in tune with what Anakin might need. She loved her husband and she wanted him to be happy. She knew that the Jedi Order had ingrained so many things into his mind as he was growing up, telling him what to believe and what made him a good Jedi. She knew that a number of these things were, at core, psychopathic. Lack of good feelings, lack of ability to love or establish meaningful personal relationships; they were supposed to become a social conscience with pure utter moral responsibility without a concept of what made those details matter. The Jedi's policies and the Jedi Council were a swirl of extreme egocentricity and, watching the movies and even the smallest amount of the TV show, made that blatant.

But dealing with this had taken it out of an already moderately worn down Padmé. She had needed to take some time, after the morning she had initially woken up next to Anakin, to wrap her mind around things. The idea that her husband might permanently be notably older than her, ages above Padmé in life experiences and knowing their child and knowing far more than Padmé could ever hope to learn from books, left her worried. The idea that Anakin's younger counterpart was expecting with the younger Helena, that there might be a half-sibling for the child she was currently expecting, and that child could be walking around the castle halls at the same time -

It was a good deal that had changed within a few days. But, as it was, Padmé was trying to adjust. She was, currently, trying to focus on her desire for things to be opened again with her husband. They were supposed to know each other. He had 28 years to get to know her, to learn through the experiences that marriage brought. He had all those years to get to know himself more as well.

"I am." Work hadn't been too taxing, as part of it had been discussing concepts of awareness and the goal being to get away from assailants, not to become a warrior who could beat someone up. Teaching self-defense was as much talking as it was teaching techniques.

"Do you want to take a walk, or do you want to sit and talk here?" Padmé decided to give the options to Anakin. Her tone suggested she was open to suggestions, if Anakin had any specific desires. She was going to be open about her intent in talking, all the same. "I'd like to talk about you, at least a little, if you wouldn't mind."

Anakin eyed the door and knew what was beyond that physical barrier. Mounds and mounds of purring puffballs that seemed like an unending avalanche of fluff. He knew the staff worked to keep areas clean but they were losing a war. If they missed just one and thought a corridor was clear and they left it to battle other areas that one would turn into thousands and thousands after one day. And then they were back at square one. If the Separatist had tribbles on their side it would have been a much shorter war.

But it was chilling to think what Palpatine could have done had he had just one tribble at his disposal.

Anakin pushed that thought away, and decided against trudging through that mass of balls of fluff. If the way he looked towards the door didn’t give away his reasons, his tone of voice might have done the trick.

“Uh... We can stay here and talk.”

He moved to the sofa and sat down. “What did you want to ask me?”

Padmé had ventured out the doors a few times, out of curiosity and need as much as anything. It was a peculiar thing that could take a person and make them a prisoner in their own home, in some essence. They were vermin and pests in all senses of the words, though they were extremely cute. It was a shame that they couldn't have a way where they didn't reproduce and cause such a problem.

After a few moments, she moved to stand from the small dining area table to follow him to the couch. The more comfortable seating area, and a hint of more closeness, seemed better for sitting and talking together.

"I want to know about - you. Are there any new hobbies, new interests that you've discovered or explored? I know you still don't like movies, but you've experienced a good deal -" With her, and yet without her. Padmé wanted to close some of that gap and hopefully make it more comfortable for the both of them. She wasn't entirely sure how to approach him or, even, exactly how to approach this. She was focused on him, her tone was friendly, and she hoped he would know that she was genuine in her desire to open communication with her husband. Even if there was a good deal to adjust to, for both of them, she loved him.

With Padmé sitting next to him and asking him about what she’d missed – or rather, had yet to experience – he was reminded of one of their first conversations in the Land of Make Believe. It was just a few short months ago for Padmé, for him it was years, he could never forget that conversation. He remembered how devastated he felt their meeting just before that wherein he told her the terrible truths about her future back in their world. The good news about their love and Luke and Leia just didn’t seem to compare to the awful end waiting for them.

At least this time he didn’t have to tell her some crushing bad news.

“Jedi don’t have hobbies,” he joked with a smile. “You never break me of some things, I’m sorry. … I find new types of projects to work at the University. You had to take the initiative if you ever wanted us to try something new. I can’t complain about anything you asked me to participate in, but they’re really more interests than mine… And those interests usually revolved around our children.”

Padmé had been a few years behind Anakin at her arrival. They had needed to rebuild things, to reapproach things. Anakin had indulged her by allowing them the opportunity to remarry, once Padmé was ready. They had a service and a honeymoon after. She had been quite happy for it, and she knew they had both enjoyed the wedding and honeymoon. Now, it was a bit different. She wished she knew how to approach it but, as it was, most of the things involving the castle seemed to involve moment-to-moment adapting and adjusting.

"Children? I - oh." Padmé nodded, not sure if she should ask for elaboration or not. She liked the idea of being together with Anakin, of forming a family, but she liked the idea of some surprise in life. But, if Anakin was going to remain his current age, she wanted to close some of the gap between them. After a moment, she shook her head and smiled a little before admitting, "And of all the things I wouldn't expect to break you of, that's probably one of the top things. The other being a desire to tinker and potentially leave things about."

"You said that we got a house? I suppose that would get you another larger, proper, work area." Padmé mused, admittedly wondering what a house with their tastes together would result in. She knew she preferred sculptures and cool colors, water and plants all about.
