Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:anakin skywalker, padme amidala

Who: Padmé Amidala-Skywalker, an aged up Anakin Skywalker
What: Padmé is young. Anakin is old. They swapped up the age gap in their relationship?
When: Monday morning, February 4, 2013
Where: Padmé and Anakin's rooms
Rating/Warnings: None; will change if applicable
Status: Closed / Incomplete

Padmé stirred in her sleep, starting the process of escaping the sleepy haze that had a grip over her body and mind as she woke from the prior night's sleep. The process of rubbing at her eyes and turning to see if Anakin was still asleep was interrupted, however, as she was met by a face that didn't match what she was expecting.

Nerves and adrenaline went into overdrive as, not thinking, Padmé scrambled to get out of the bed and open the bedside stand drawer. Her blaster pistol was in there and, while she had no intent to use it unless absolutely necessary, she wanted a way to defend herself.

Perhaps because it had been the result of the shock happening right as she was waking up, but her heart was racing. "Who are you?"

Anakin was having a pleasant rest and was unaware how his existence was affecting his wife. He had gone to bed the night before unsuspecting of any impending time displacement anomalies. Though, perhaps, by this point in his life, after living twenty three years in the Land of Make Believe, he should expect just about anything.

He was slow to pick up on the agitation coming off his wife in waves through the Force, lying in bed next to Padmé had been so comfortable and he was willfully ignoring anything that might disturb that enjoyable moment.

But there came a point that he could not pretend something didn’t feel right. He used his prosthetic hand to rub at his eye, pushing back sleep and opening the door way to confusion. He saw the blaster in Padmé’s hands first, which really helped with the waking process.

“Not my choice of morning bedroom activities,” he quipped with a smile, which he only did because he could feel no warning signals in the Force. The only blip in an otherwise peaceful room was his wife.

“Padmé why are you-” By now his eyes had traveled to her face, and while it was, as always, lovely to behold, it was much younger than he was used to seeing. Memories of being shot at by a fourteen year old version of Padmé flashed through his mind.

“Young?” he finished. “Oh... It’s me,” he held up his prosthetic hand as proof. “You’re husband.”

"Ani." Padmé shut her eyes when Anakin held his hand up to prove it was him. After a moment, when her heart finally started to return to a more normal rhythm, she sat the blaster down on the bedside stand.

After a moment and a few deep breaths, she brought her hand up over her mouth and attempted to let her mind catch up with this idea. "You're not - the right age."

“I appreciate that,” Anakin said, gesturing to the now resting blaster. There would be no new wall decorations, it would seem.

Anakin sat up and looked around the room, and he noticed there were some definite things out of place. Like the whole room, in fact. He was back in the castle, and he and Padmé hadn’t lived here in a good many number of years.

“We’re in the castle?” He said it almost to himself. He looked back at Padmé, “What age am I supposed to be?”

Padmé was still trying to press down the sensation the startling wake-up had caused when Anakin remarked about how he appreciated her sitting the blaster down. She could just imagine if she had added a new wall decoration. She wouldn't have heard the end of it; she didn't like shooting in her husband's direction. It wasn't like she was used to him changing from what age she expected him to be.

With a small huff, a motion that resulted out of frustration, Padmé had to think through the local calendar system versus the one she was used at home. "It's 2013. You're supposed to be - 23? I don't know when your birthday would be on local calendar." She admitted, feeling a certain sense of guilt at this realization and lack of knowledge of his exact age. All the same, she didn't know when her birthday was on local calendar either. Approximates were fine. She was about a year older than him.

She stood there for a few moments more before deciding that she needed to either brace herself against something or sit down. "Where would we be instead of the castle? What age should I be to you?"

Anakin raised his eyebrows, “Oh. That would explain being in the castle.”

Anakin didn’t hold it against Padme that she didn’t know how to justify the calendaring system with this world’s method of keeping time. It was impossible to line them up in any meaningful fashion. Plus, Jedi didn’t celebrate birthdays, that would encourage attachments, after all, and he’d had never picked up the practice of doing so even living the last twenty three years on this planet. Birthday celebrations were more of a thing for children than adults anyways.

“And you’re-” Noting the absence of anything ‘baby’ in the room, a look of recalling fond memories lit up over his face. But he wiped that nostalgic smile off before it lasted more than a second because Padmé was clearly upset. He was upsetting her. He sobered up, sat up straighter and made sure to eliminate any joking from his voice. “Forty-seven. We have- will purchase a house, at your prompting, in a few years.”

Padmé moved back to the bed and sat down on the edge of it, not wishing to fuss with turning one of the chairs in front of the fireplace to face the bed and Anakin. It was Anakin; she didn't have any reason to be scared of him. It was mostly a case of being startled, and scared, when she woke up. Being rational and completely in control of her emotions wasn't her strong suit, especially with changes in her body and hormone levels.

"I - oh. No. Leia is just down the hall, with Han. Leia has been here around a month. Ahsoka too. I -" She hadn't quite had a smooth first meeting with Han was worried about Ahsoka, but now wasn't the time to address their son-in-law or Anakin's Padawan. She really didn't know what she should address, but she knew those two things weren't it. "I suppose you should call into work, sick. It is a Monday. I doubt your students would feel any less shocked than I at your change in age."

Anakin was suddenly struck with the impression that he was intruding into a space he didn’t belong. That was his wife sitting across the bed from him, but the furthest she could get and still be on the bed. That fact did not go unnoticed by him. She felt distant, too, all the feelings she’d experienced since waking up were clear for him to read in the Force, and certain other feelings were also conspicuously absent.

“I’ll do that, yes.” He gave a brief nod.

He looked around the room again, so many memories of this time flooding back to him, and they were good memories, so many people often talked about reliving the glory days of their youth and how fulfilling that would be. But for Anakin, that idea was proving a foolish notion, as all those good memories were being overshadowed by that disconnecting sadness at the gulf rising between him the woman he loved. He wanted to fix that breach but he, even after years of living side by side with Padmé, still didn’t know how to do something like that, and his current incorrect age state of being was making that all the more difficult.

“If… I should still have that workroom in the castle?” It was a place to go so he could give Padmé the space she wanted. At this point it was all he could give her.

Padmé didn't immediately answer. Rather, for the first time since realizing what was going on and that it was Anakin, she was taking the opportunity to do something generally considered rude. She stared, taking in the wrinkles on his face and the familiar details that had evidently lasted through the ages. The jawline, the angle of his nose, the sandy hair color. She knew his hand was distinct, but his hand hadn't been what had been unfamiliar to her. She looked at the familiar bits and pieces that made it less about waking up next to a stranger, something that would terrify anyone, and worked toward reassuring her further that it was Anakin. In the end, she ended up with most of her focus being on his eyes. The clever, curious blue eyes that tended to express so much at times even when he, verbally, said nothing. The eyes that had melted her heart, at times, with a single gaze. In that moment, it was giving her something to anchor herself to in order to pull back toward some sense of calm.

After a moment, eyes welling up with what could've been normal or hormone caused tears, Padmé admitted, "I thought - you weren't here, that the castle had deposited someone else here. Like when the people were stuck to us, only -"

It had startled and it had scared her. Despite something in the back of her mind recalling meeting Anakin again and her telling him "My goodness, you've grown" after his notable change in age, she didn't get out such a witty comment. Instead, she moved to get back into the bed and curl up against her husband. The ages were wrong, to each other, but she needed a hug at the very least.

When Padmé started crying Anakin felt infinitely worse, automatically jumping to the conclusion that it was somehow his fault.

“I can just-” he started to say when Padmé scoot towards him on the bed and wrapped her arms around him. He was going to offer to leave; he was upsetting her, the opposite of everything he tried to do. But if she didn’t want him to leave, that desire being expression so strongly (and yet in an utterly confusing way for Anakin, for she felt quite distressed in the Force) he finished with instead, “Oh.”

He wouldn’t deny Padmé anything, of course, and he pulled her close to him.

“I didn’t mean for this to happen. If you want me to leave and give you space, I will,” he said, trying to find a solution that would work.

"If you had meant for this to happen, you wouldn't have left my blaster anywhere I could get it." Padmé pointed out amidst her tears, not moving from the spot where she was next to Anakin.

She did, however, look up at him when he suggested he leave. "Is there a reason I don't know about why I should want you to leave?" She couldn't imagine such being the case about the future, but she figured better to ask since she had no reason. "Otherwise, you don't need to? If you want to spend time in your workroom I wouldn't object. I'm tired most of the time, lately, so there's not a good deal t-"

He was from the future, but she hadn't told him the month it was in 2013. She hadn't been pregnant, or aware of her pregnancy, for all of 2013. There was also the risk of miscarriage, she knew from numerous pregnancy books and "websites" she had read, so there was a possibility that she wouldn't be pregnant at the end of the year. She hoped not, but she couldn't be sure.

After a momentary pause and ending her prior though in the middle of it, she admitted, "I am pregnant right now. No one but you and I know, yet." The morning sickness hadn't been too bad, more a matter of consistent nausea. She was starting to be able to smell a good deal of things and certain smells of foods were quickly becoming notable aversions to her.

“You’re crying Padmé,” Anakin pointed out. “Because I’m here.” And therein lay his confusion. “I only suggested it because you seem very upset.”

Anakin did know Padmé was pregnant. He remembered 2013 well; he couldn’t forget how important this year was for them. Their daughter was born in the autumn months. He could tell it was winter from the frost on the windows and the snow on the sills. If it had been the tail end of the year, as he’d noted earlier, there would be the very telling presence of their daughter and her things in the room.

And as it turned out there was a presence in the Force that was their daughter. It was so very different from them at this point, a small, barely there blip compared to the strong presence that was, say, Padmé. But Anakin, having gone through this already, knew it for what it was. It was their daughter.

“I know. I promise I won’t give away any secrets to anyone.”

"I'm crying because it scared me. I know it wasn't intentional. But I still didn't realize it was you and I didn't know where you were." Padmé repeated in more clear terms, being completely honest about it. She didn't sense Force presences and she hadn't looked at Anakin long. She had, simply, seen an unfamiliar face and went for her blaster as a hoped matter of protecting herself if necessary. "And - it made my heart race and I'm just crying."

"I don't know how long you're going to be here. I don't suppose it will be easy for you to have a wife stuck in the past." She might have to make a point of trying to handle what she could on her own. It was a transition, she imagined, for Anakin as well as for herself.

“Padmé,” Anakin said softly. He brought one hand up to brush the tears off one of her cheeks. He certainly remembered this part of the year very well, though he knew by now not to say anything about that. Many slip-ups and mistakes had taught him what exactly not to say in moments like this. Which wasn’t the same as knowing what to say. But he did know there were certain things he should never bring up, in fact maybe he shouldn’t even think them.

“For as long as I’m here, I’m here for you. I don’t care how far in the past you are for me. Whatever you want from me, I’ll do it. I’ll always do what you need me to do.” Or he would at least try. That did not change in the twenty-three years he’d lived in the Land of Make Believe.

Padmé continued to lie there against Anakin, taking comfort in both the gesture and his verbal reassurances. She still didn't know what to make of everything, her more easily set off nerves included, but it wasn't as if she had a time deadline. They could work at figuring things out, together, ideally.

"Can we start with just - lying in for awhile?" She knew this was asking something of him, actually, as it meant staying still and not going off to jog or train or whatnot. (She assumed that hadn't changed.) He had to call in for his classes to avoid scaring students with his sudden bout of aging, undoubtedly, but that meant that he would have more time to do as he pleased.

Padmé was correct to assume Anakin had not changed over the past twenty three years in regards to his need to be constantly doing things. He still didn’t like meditation. He still didn’t like remaining in one position for more than was necessary – he’d only begrudgingly accepted sleep as a necessary activity.

But he had told Padmé whatever she needed of him he would do.

“Yes,” he said, and he even had a measured tone that belied none of his dislike of lying still. He focused more on the plus that Padmé wasn't kicking him out, and that she was at least accepting him for the moment. “However long you want. We’ll work through this.”
