Who: Harry Potter and Jane Foster
What: Harry and Jane run into each other.
When: Tuesday, January 22. Afternoon.
Where: The park.
Rating/Warnings: Low.
Status: Incomplete/CLOSED

Harry had needed some time out of the castle. Having a job was a good thing, as it got him out of the castle from time to time. But the times he was not at work, he sometimes still felt stifled by the castle. So Harry decided to go into New Creandi, and go to the park. A bit of fresh air would do him some good, he suspected.

Harry was currently seated on the grass, idly playing with the Snitch his father -- or James, as he had been calling him -- had given to him for Christmas. It was extremely weird, having his parents here. It was also strange calling them Lily and James, but that's who they were. They hadn't even had him yet, so he supposed that calling them Mum and Dad would be a little awkward. Especially for them. So there he was.

He missed his friends terribly. His friends, and Ginny, and the normalcy that his life had become after the defeat of Voldemort.

After looking into the woods for quite a bit, nearly straying onto the direct path of a very real and very dangerous dragon's path Jane had made her way to New Creandi, in home of something simpler, safer but interesting all the same. She had been walking for some time, writing in a small notebook she had bought early into her arrival, jotting down ideas, names and anything else which sprang to mind when she spotted him.

The young man who she spoke to through the mobile. He had said his name was Harry and that he could use magic ... she had meant to get in touch with him again yet Jane had been losing herself to her studies more often than not.

Inhaling deeply, she strode forward, slipping the book into her coat pocket as she approached Harry and when she was within arms length, she gave a slight wave of her hand. "Hello, Harry, it's me Jane re-" She stopped mid sentence, staring at the Snitch with wide eyes and then slowly looked back to him, gesturing towards the winged object.

"What's that?"

He was focusing on the Snitch, allowing it to fly away a bit, before reaching out and snatching it from the air. He had done this a couple of times before he noticed a young woman headed his way. He offered the woman who introduced herself as Jane a small smile, ignoring the hovering Snitch for a moment.

"Hello, Jane." He remembered talking to her over the network, she had been interested in magic and how he managed it. Before he could say anything else, though, she had noticed the Snitch that was still in the air. "It's a Snitch," he informed her, as he reached toward it and grabbed it out of the air. He held it up for her to inspect, if she wished. "It's one of the balls used to play Quidditch. ...the game played on brooms?" He added the last part, because he remembered she had asked about Quidditch in the past, over the network.

"Oh, that's ... fascinating," Jane spoke quietly, eyes fixed on the small fluttering wings. Surely they were controlled by tiny gears and levers, working over time inside of the compact sphere to cause the movement and yet that did not explain how it actually remained air born. The wings appeared much too delicate to hold its weight.

"I'm not interrupting you, am I? I was just wondering whether or not we could talk ... about magic and how it all works. How that-" At this, she indicated the Snitch. "-Can do that. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, that is."

Harry smiled slightly at the reaction that the Snitch had gotten from Jane. He was used to people not knowing what magic was, or how it worked. The only Muggles he had ever encountered who knew about magic were the Grangers and the Dursleys. The Dursleys were frightened of it, as they did not know how it worked. The Grangers were more accepting of it, as their only child had been able to do it.

"You are not interrupting me at all. I was just trying to get some fresh air, is all. I've been cooping myself up inside far too much, both at work and in the castle." He offered Jane another smile. "What would you like to know about magic? I cannot explain exactly how the Snitch is able to fly, though... I suspect charms have been put in place during the creation of it, though, in order to make it fly."

Jane nodded slightly, just before looking around the area and where Harry sat before lowering herself down, just inches from him, her legs drawn up in front of her as she pulled the notepad from her jacket once again, tapping the pen lightly against the cover. "Oh yeah? I've actually spent most of my own time out doors since arriving. Need to get a job actually."

Flipping the book open, she steadied the pen on the page. "Oh, anything really. Like, what sort of charm would that be? And ... is everyone able to use magic from where you come from?" She asked, giving Harry a small smile. It was hard for Jane not to simply jump head first into it, but she knew it was always easier to take matters slowly. She didn't want to scare him off.

Harry shrugged slightly, "I have been trying to get out and explore the area, but... I just haven't been able to recently." Ever since finding out he was written about in a series of books, it was hard for Harry to focus on much else. He had been able to get to work and everything, but when he found himself with free time...

"Not everyone is able to do magic, from where I am from," Harry started. "There are wizards and witches, but then there are also Muggles. Muggles are what we -- wizards and witches -- call non-magical people. The wizarding community isn't too keen on letting Muggles know about magic. Of course, there is the occasional exception... my aunt and uncle and cousin, who I lived with while not at school, were Muggles. But they knew of magic, merely because I was able to do it. They knew what the school I was going to was for, that it was to teach me the proper use of magic. But the use of magic in front of Muggles is forbidden." He stopped talking for a moment, and allowed the Snitch to fly out of his hand once more. "The only reason I feel comfortable showing you magic is because I believe the Ministry of Magic has no power here."

Jane sat for a moment and then flipped open her notepad, starting to take quick notes, although her hand occasionally stilled as she watched the young man, taking in his each word. Reading from a cellphone that magic existed, that people could actually play a game in the air on broomsticks was one thing, hearing it, sitting and watching it happen before her was an entirely different matter.

It was slowly sinking in, like a rock falling to the pit of her stomach that this was truly happening. Their worlds were entirely different, likely none of these people - the exception being Darcy - were from her world.

She shifted her hands, writing the rest down quickly just before shifted it, twirling the inkpen between her fingers. Her brow furrowed slightly. "This Ministry controls it then? The magic I mean. They keep your Muggles from knowing?"

Harry was actually enjoying spending time with this woman, and explaining to her how magic worked. Or, at least, how he understood magic to work. "I didn't think magic was possible, before my eleventh birthday. I got my letter to Hogwarts on that day, and... everything changed after that." He had been raised by Muggles, as he had said before. And the Muggles had done everything in their power to ensure that Harry didn't learn of magic's existence. Though it still wasn't enough, Harry learned about it.

"The Ministry doesn't really control magic. They just regulate it, they give rules to the ones who can do magic. And yes, they keep Muggles from knowing. Because people slip up, and there needs to be some sort of control over it." He offered Jane a small smile, and leaned against the back of the bench.

"Would you like to see more magic? There is more to it than just this Snitch."
