Who: Lily Evans and Keleios Incantare
Where: The magical district of New Creandi
When: Backdated to Saturday, January 29, afternoon
What: It's a small wizarding world here in the Land of Make Believe.
Rating/Status: Low; closed/incomplete

The holidays had been lovely, if a bit strange. How exactly did one celebrate in a place without all of their friends around, and with a son who was already fully grown? As it turned out, much the same as one did when still at home: with lots of food and exchanging presents. James had eaten enough chocolate to kill a very large dog, and Harry was starting to get more comfortable around both of his parents, and the castle's feast had been nearly as good as those served at Hogwarts. So Lily was counting this Christmas as a success all round.

However, the wheels of commerce did not pause long even for festivities, and Lily had gone back to work a few shifts at Vellum's Tomes after the celebrations had stopped. Boxing Day sales were apparently not as big a thing here, but they were still open. After her shift Saturday she'd gone poking about the rest of the neighborhood - it was hard not to compare it to Diagon Alley, which she still missed, but the shops were more than adequate for her purposes. Which currently included finding the ingredients for Pepper-Up Potion. The January chill always led to colds and sniffles and having a supply on hand would be extremely helpful. Especially since James tended to go tearing about without a hat, and she somehow doubted Harry took after his mother in these circumstances.

Keleios was on duty at the apothecary, where she had been picking up more hours since Professor Snape's sudden departure. She still made time to continue tutoring the student at the castle, and creating charms on the side, but she found she was kept fairly busy at the shop. And she liked it that way.

She was just returning from lunch when she saw the red haired young woman approaching, and hurried to open the door for her. "Chilly, isn't it?"

Lily nodded gratefully at the blonde, walking through the door and taking off her gloves quickly. "A bit, yes. At least it's dry. I hate damp cold, it gets into your bones, doesn't it?" She looked at the other woman more closely and gave her a brilliant smile. "You live up at the castle, don't you? I'm Lily."

The shop was cheery compared to the weather outside, and full of all sorts of warm, herbal smells. Keleios like it, because it reminded her of her mother's workshop a bit. She smiled and offered her right hand in greeting as Lily recognized her.

"I do," she replied, "Lily Evans, isn't it?" She'd met the slightly older, married version of Lily, but it seemed a bit awkward to mention that. "My name is Keleios. I believe I've spoken to your beau a few times, on the subject of elves, and magic. And--of course--Quidditch."

Lily shook Keleios's hand, immediately at ease in the familiar environment of an apothecary. Potions had been one of her favorite subjects at Hogwarts.

"Yes. It's lovely to meet you, Keleios," she said, then laughed as the other woman finished her explanation of how she'd met James. "Of course. He does go on a bit, doesn't he? Especially about Quidditch." Lily tilted her head, considering. "Did you go to Hogwarts? Or are you a different sort of witch?" Coming to the Land of Make Believe had taught her that there were a myriad of other sorts of magic in different universes.

"He certainly does," Keleios mused with a laugh. "He was rather appalled that I had never heard of it. I'd never heard of Hogwarts either," she said, jumping to the next question. "My mother was a human herb-witch, my father was an elf. And this is usually the part of the conversation where I get odd looks from Hogwarts alumni."

Lily raised an eyebrow - not hearing of Hogwarts she could understand, and a herb-witch seemed reasonable enough, but humans and elves? "I suppose your sort of elves aren't house elves," she said finally. "James told you about them?"

"Oh, I've seen Kreacher about," Keleios replied, "And if you ever see a green one wearing a bell, he's mine--he's called Groghe, and he's actually what we call an imp. But yes, there are several different races of elves, and faeries, and the folklore all gets jumbled up in translation--especially in a place like this."

She shrugged her shoulders. "I've spent the past year and a half or so trying to find out all the similarities and differences amongst the various magical practitioners who've been here."

"It certainly does," Lily agreed. "I gave up on Muggle fairy tales soon after I went to Hogwarts since they all seemed so wrong, but there's no reason those couldn't be closer to magic where you come from." Witches and goblins were painfully real, she'd discovered, and it was best to simply forget about her preconceptions rather than insist that the stories she'd grown up with were still useful.

Picking up a packet of potion ingredients - powdered hen's teeth, apparently - Lily studied it for a moment before turning back to Keleios with a nod. "Have you noticed any trends? I'm sure it's all very interesting." And she meant it.

"In magic? Sure," Keleios replied. "Once you get past a few hurdles in language and terminology, the basic principles remain the same. Magical vocabulary for evocation, a focus object to direct spells more efficiently. Charmed objects. Defensive wards."
