Who: Tracey Davis, Regulus Black
What: Smoke break / prank planning session
When: Wednesday, Sept 19, 2012 - late evening
Where: Tracey's apartment, balcony
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 / Language possible
Status: Closed / Incomplete

A number of pots sat on tall stands on one side of the covered balcony, the one nearest to Tracey holding a currently flowerless Valerian plant. After an incident with a certain black cat knocking one of the pots, they all had charms put on them to keep pests out and keep the dirt inside of the plant. On the furthest end of the balcony was a small square pot that held cat grass. That was where Night was sitting, happily ignoring the two Slytherins sitting on the balcony, smoking.

Tracey tapped her cigarette over an ash tray sitting on the small table sitting between them. "Despite the fact that it was aimed at Severus, not you, I say the tea set ought to result in us calling it even on 'housewarming gifts' for now." She mused aloud after a moment. "So we can fully concentrate on a prank on someone else. And you can give me an address."

Regulus pulled from his cigarette and eyed Tracey as he blew out the smoke. He considered her proposal carefully, if there were hidden strings attached he sought for them. It was his right as a Slytherin to do so. No, not a right, and imperative.

He and Tracey had an odd relationship. Most would call it friendship, if they just glanced at them. If they looked further they might be appalled at how antagonistic they could be towards each other and yet, how fully they remained in each other’s good favor. They each only trusted the other about as far as they could throw them, and they found that made things mutually beneficial and refreshingly clear. They each knew the other’s intent in a general sense, if not the details, and that, for a Slytherin was the basis of all solid, working relationships. Most found their approach clinical and cold, they found it predictable and, therefore, comforting.

This was as close to ‘trust’ Slytherins got.

“We have a truce,” Regulus said at last. He pulled out his wand and conjured a pad of paper and quill to jot down the address of the home he and Severus were purchasing. He tore the slip of paper off the pad and held it out for Tracey to take.

“And who did you have in mind?" he said conspiratorially. "Severus was recently worrying over his wardrobe.” As much as Regulus loved his partner when it came to pranks everyone was fair game.

Tracey grinned and took the slip, folding it and shifting to tuck it into her pants pocket. Their "friendship" was likely dysfunctional by most standards, but it worked quite well for Tracey. It was the finding and blending of two like-minded individuals and, really, that was why it worked. It was likely why Eames had blended in with the group well, too, as he had.

"Worried over what with his wardrobe? We could certainly do something there, perhaps in a way he wouldn't anticipate. We ought to consider Eames as well, I think. It's been awhile since he's been the target instead of the one doing the targeting." Not that Tracey had been targeted by Eames, which she was quite okay with. Mostly it had been Regulus who he targeted, such as "Bernard" or whatever that little toy had been named. Tracey had only cast the spell; she hadn't gone shopping or been the one to purchase the rolling pig. "We could have plans for both and bide our time, do them when the timing is right and opportunity presents itself."

“Severus is afraid I’ll change his cloths to some garish colors, but has failed to consider my own self-interest in the matter. I don’t like tasteless pairings of color.” Regulus’ look, on the other hand, suggested he was willing to use this fear to his advantage, even if he wasn’t going to drape his partner in, say, gold and lime green plaid. He could think of something.

“Yes, I have been leaving Eames alone.” Regulus scratched at his chin thoughtfully. “Though, I did warn him that I’ve neglected him long enough. He probably could use some attention. Did you have anything in mind?”

"You could do something, charming his robes, where a trail of colours results wherever he goes. He swoops down the hall with the black robes, like a bat, with rainbows that trail behind him and fade after a few moments." Tracey suggested with a small laugh. It had the element of colours without changing the actual clothing. It also ideally wouldn't anger the staff, if done while still living at the castle, since the trick wouldn't leave a permanent trail when done.

"I would say we should do the colour trail on Eames, but I think he would like that." Tracey said with a mild frown, contemplating their muggle friend. "And removing all colour from Eames' wardrobe, while annoying, seems mild. He needs a bit more attention than that."

Regulus raised an eyebrow at the thought of a rainbow following Severus where ever the Potions Master stalked. “Vicious, but I like it.”

The only question regarding Severus now remained how much trouble would Regulus be in when they did this, and would it be worth it. He was sure the latter could be answered with a resounding yes. What was love without spreading the joy for everyone to partake? The how much might not be assessable until after the fact.

“We could change his whole quarters to appear to him to be devoid of color. It would extend the shock maybe far enough?”

Tracey grinned at his assessment. Really, the fact that she could imagine a rainbow following Severus spoke to the fact that she had genuinely relaxed in regards to the Potions Master. The mannerisms that she had once attributed to her former Head of House had faded to simply be memories, the now peer status having taken over.

"I like that. I think that could mean Eames has been given just the right amount of attention. We ought to toss a bit of grey in, just to give that extra bit of room for him to question the origin rather than think it purely a redecoration choice." Tracey pointed out, still grinning. She paused to take a drag on her cigarette and muse for a few moments before continuing, "I think it might allow our artist friend to see, to appreciate, colours more vividly after the lack of colours. He ought to thank us."

“He’ll thank us with scathing remarks and veiled threats,” Regulus remarked. And the smirk that accompanied his assessment belied just how endearing he would find his friends’ indignation. “I think he will want to repay our kindness with some of his own.” And that called forth a laugh from the young man.

“And I look forward to witnessing how creative he can get.”

He paused to tap his cigarette against the ash tray. “The question remains, who shall we plot against first?”

While it could've been argued that Eames needed the attention sooner, since Severus had received the lovely tea set gift, but there was a certain detail about that which didn't entirely convince Tracey that would be the wisest route to take. "If we do something to Eames first, I think it may put Severus on alert. Eames already knows that he's going to get attention at some point in the near future, and it's simply a fact. Severus, on the other hand, thinks he just got attention with his periwinkle present."

"I say Severus first, Eames second. Eames can sit and laugh at Severus and his rainbows and not be working to mobilise retaliation against us and then try to get Severus in on it." Tracey didn't know if Severus would try to retaliate, nor how if so, but Eames seemed more the sort to go for elaborate. He had been in on more of the pranks thus far.

"Yes, can't have them combining forces against us."

Having weathered the group efforts of all three of his closest friends, Regulus really didn't fear the dual concerted efforts of Severus and Eames. They never harmed each other, no matter what Regulus claimed polyester did to his 'tender sensibilities'. And truth be told, he would be disappointed if no alliance was formed, if such an opportunity present itself.

"I'm sure Severus will be delighted at the amount of joy and cheer he brings to every room now."

"Severus first, then." Tracey agreed with a smirk, nodding at the mention of Severus' unavoidable delight. It was almost as fun as imagining Severus as a furry little marsupial. "I'm not sure if I want to be invited over for tea that day, just for the pure sake of seeing how delighted he'll be, or if I'd rather stay hidden and well away from all of the joy and merriment. I'm not sure how well I could take that much excitement, given the usual humdrum of things."

"So, how have things been? Raising teenagers, work, purchasing a house... Sounds almost routine."
