Who: Ariadne, open
What: Sketching
When: Saturday August 25, 2012 - evening
Where: Halls near the entrance
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 / Possible language
Status: Open / Incomplete

Ariadne had grabbed a set of watercolor pencils and slipped off, not entirely sure where she was going to sketch. The weather wasn't settled and while she normally wouldn't have minded getting a little wet, so long as she could tuck her sketchpad into her jacket to avoid damage, but with watercolor pencils the idea was to be able to gently use water after to turn the pencil into paint. The effect of one sprinkle could've utterly ruined it. She wanted to stay inside and, while the library was lovely, she had been in there enough; she wanted to find somewhere random and new for a very basic change of scenery.

She finally settled for sitting down against one of the walls near the entrance, to the edge of the hall, with her feet tucked up near her. She had a plain oversized white shirt on over top of a white undershirt, jeans, and worn out sneakers. Her hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail. She didn't figure she would be too big of a distraction or in the way of anyone, but someone seemed to take notice anyhow. She looked up when she heard a noise and met someone's gaze. She, joking, smiled and said, "Hello. Sorry, am I in the way?"

Anakin looked up, catching the description of the fish. That sounded lonely, never being able to be with others because your instincts compelled you to fight all the time. He might not get along with hardly anyone at the Temple, but he couldn’t imagine never being around anyone else. Maybe that’s what it was like being Master Windu?

“You would teach me?” He asked her. An unsolicited offer of instruction happened rarely in Anakin’s life. Perhaps even the last time was Master Qui-Gon’s offer to teach how to be a Jedi. Every offer after that was because he had been thrust into the unwilling care of the Jedi and it was a task they viewed as necessary, not desirous. Needless to say, he found the young woman’s offer too good to be true to trust on face value. He was hesitant.

"If you'd like. You can talk to your older self about it, first, if you'd like. He should know who I am. We've talked a few times." Never mind what about, nor the fact that part of the time they had been stranded in New York while Anakin had been stuck in a Darth Vader costume.

"It's not something you have to do, though you will probably have a bit of art when you go to school. That is - assuming your older self plans to have you go to school here. I'm not sure what grade you would be in. That would depend on age, mostly." Ariadne pointed out politely, turning her sketchpad around and flipping to a blank page. She started to do a quick, easy rainbow of colors. Before too long, she tore the page out and held it out to Anakin. "You can have this. If you want to take your finger and put a dab of water on, you can play with seeing how it does it yourself. It won't go quite as smoothly as with a paintbrush, but it ought to give you something to have a bit of fun with."

Anakin was hesitant to accept the paper from Ariadne, if only because he didn’t know her yet coupled with years of ‘no possessions’ being drilled into him. But she kept it held out to him so he eventually took it from her. Once in his hands he examined it, tipping his head to one side, slightly.

“I’ll think about it,” he said, to answer her offer of teaching him how to draw. He’d never had much of an artistic ability, his talents ran in other directions. But he did like the fish she was drawing and it would be something to do. If no one minded, things seemed to be organized less strictly here than they were at the Temple.

"Okay. It's not something you have to do - it's completely up to you. Just let me know what you decide, okay?" Ariadne said with a nod and a smile, turning her page back to the sketch and perusing to find the proper color again. She imagined at this point, she was probably boring the kid.

"If you want to watch me sketch, you can, or if you have something to do - don't let me keep you." Ariadne's tone was friendly, not wanting the boy to take it as a dismissal. "You ought to see if you can stop into a pet store sometime, just to take a look and see the 'local' animals. They would have this type of fish and a number of others." Ariadne half wondered if there was an aquarium of some sort in the city and made a mental note to check later. She knew there was a zoo, or she thought someone had mentioned it, but she wasn't sure about an aquarium.

“Ya, I’ll let you know,” he said. He was unsure for a variety of reasons. Would his guardians be okay with him doing that? Did he really want to sit and learn how to draw? There was a lot to consider before he gave a definite answer.

“Okay. I’ll… try to find one,” he said, even though he’d been trained to remove that word from his lexicon. At least his instructors had tried to teach him to.

“I should go now,” he said. Though he wouldn’t mind watching Ariadne draw more things, she was very good at it. But he’d been trained to be unobtrusive and to not linger where he shouldn’t. Though he failed at it often, clearly, he did try to follow what his instructors taught him. He did try.
