[Eames is out in the livingroom part of his flat now, smoking and pacing a little bit as he waits for the kettle to boil and for Reg to answer his phone]

[He doesn't even bother with a greeting when the phone is picked up] I don't know how it's bloody possible, we use a machine and a drug to induce a shared dream. I have no new track marks, there's no sign of a PASIV, it doesn't make sense.

...How's your head?

Wait, back up. Who's this 'we'? There's a drug that induces ... shared dreams?

And my head is fine, doesn't matter.

wha-wha-what did you say, oh you're breaking up on me...

My team, back home. And yes, there is. It's called Somnacin.

[Eames is now making tea] Of course it matters. Shocking as it may seem, I don't actually like causing pain to my friends, Reg.

Fuck, that's intrusive. Why would any want to share dreams?

[Regulus is outside so as not to disturb those still asleep inside] Really, I'm fine, it's nothing I can't live through.

I want to tell you something you've known all along...

The military used it as a training programme. No need to hold back in a training exercise if you just wake up when you die, is there? Soldiers were free to shoot, stab, maim and kill all they liked, and then you woke up, fresh as a daisy with no visible injuries and a whole new skillset. Amazing, don't you think? [Eames sounds anything but amazed]

I suppose you can do some sort of... magical thing, yes? That'll sort out your headache. I remember Severus making something for me when I broke my arm.

Something witty about telephones here

No, sounds abhorrent when you paint it like that. I'm something of a pacifist.

[Regulus sounds muffled at first, he's lit a cigarette] No, I haven't done anything. It'll go away, on it's own, right?

yet more song lyrics involving telephones...

Yes, well, my superior officers didn't exactly think like you, I'm afraid. And ours was not to reason why, ours was but to do and die. Repeatedly.

[Eames lifts his tea and wanders over to the couch, then sits down and drinks a mouthful, which does wonders (as usual)] It will, it's just a headache. While we're in a dream, it's real, so your brain expects pain from my firing bullets into your skull. But you're not injured, so it'll fade away once everything gets caught up. It's just an absolute fucker until then.

Huh, I can see a personal application to that.

Then I won't worry about it.
