[Ring, ring...]
[Myka is impatiently pacing the floor of her room as she waits for her friend to pick up]

[While debating how to approach this topic with Myka, and chastising herself for letting it slip out like that, her phone rang. Seeing it was Myka, Helena just bypassed the standard greeting for answering the phone.] "I am sorry for not telling you sooner. I'd meant to approach the topic in a completely different manner than that."

[Myka pauses, she can appreciate how this would be a difficult topic to bring up. It kind of hurts to think about, actually.]

"I don't understand. You were alive when I left."

[Pausing, Helena took a moment to center herself. Thinking about her death, much less talking about it, wasn't easy. There was a clear heaviness to her tone as she spoke.]

"Because to you, my death never happened. It happened when we were trapped in the Warehouse with Sykes' bomb. The first time, Sykes was killed before we discovered the bomb. You, Pete, Artie and I located the bomb and the three of you tried to diffuse it, but the efforts were made in vain. The artifact was too well sealed within the device Sykes had put it in."

"The first time?"

[Myka has to think about that.]

"Before Artie used the Astrolabe?"

"Yes."

[Helena's voice cracked momentarily. It was her turn to stand up and pace as she drew in a breath. This was not something she found easy to talk about.]

"While the three of you tried to diffuse the bomb, I poked around in the Warehouse's system and found an anomaly which allowed me to reroute a portion of the outer barrier to a spot inside the Warehouse. I formed the barrier around you, Pete and Artie, insulating the three of you from the blast. It was the only way I could think of to save you."

[Feeling tears stinging her eyes, Helena tried her best to keep the sob inside. There was more to say, but Helena needed a couple moments to pull herself together enough to speak.]

"But... why weren't you inside the barrier, too?"

[Myka's voice is so full of emotion. She doesn't want Helena to die, she argued so much against destroying the Janus coin.]

"It had to be initiated from outside the barrier."

[Helena's tone was soft, very similar to how she'd said as much to Myka, Pete and Artie shortly before the bomb detonated. Despite the soft tone, emotion was heavy in her voice.]

"I wanted you to live, and I had a way to ensure that happened. It ultimately meant that I died, but that did not matter to me. All I cared about was that you were alive."

[Helena meant "you" specifically in regards to Myka, but it could also be taken as being the plural use including Pete and Artie as well. She did wonder if Myka would understand that, and if she didn't, Helena wouldn't explain now. That tied directly into Helena's true feelings for Myka, and now was not the time to bridge that conversation.]
