"It's not that difficult," Laura reassured him. Not that she really had any experience actually being an alpha, other than what her mother had taught her and shown her. It involved a lot of listening and questioning and understanding and making decisions based on that understanding. Watching for things most people missed, trying to be fair is your assessment and judgement, and keeping in mind the traditions and... okay. So it was perhaps a little more difficult than Laura really thought, but it wasn't the toughest thing in the world. It mostly involved learning about people and helping them, and in return, the Pack helped out their alpha. It wasn't a burden shared alone, Laura knew.
But Derek didn't need to know any of that. He'd have to learn that eventually, when he was calmer.
"And all that matters is that you're alive, Derek. You helped those kids." If Derek hadn't shown up, the school would either be even more of a bloodbath than it already was or there would be a number of newly turned werewolves running around, an unknown alpha trying to make inroads on the territory. "You did what you had to do, the only thing you could do at the time. You saved Melly and all of those kids."
Laura pulled him in for another hug, trying to soothe the trembling. "Don't worry. You need to focus on staying calm for now."
