Log: Matty & Augustus; Complete
LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY deceitfulaugust)
Who: Matilda & Augustus
When: Shortly after the Quidditch Match; Before the Ravenclaw Quidditch Fighting
Where: Hospital Wing
What: In keeping with his plan to charm the pants off of Matilda, Augustus comes to "cheer" Matty up.
Matty winced as she tried to adjust her position on the infirmary bed, her teeth biting into her lip with her efforts. "Ow" she hissed as she finally managed to sit up, her dirtied Quidditch robes leaving stains all over the pristine sheets. She was a mess, emotionally and physically. Losing that game meant more to Matty than she'd ever let any of her team see, she was suppose to be the strong one, the one that was always up for the next challenge. But with a bandage wrapped around her broken wrist, and wounded pride she just felt sub-human, not to mention that due ot her injury she was rushed to the infirmary without speaking to a single scout. "Today isn't your day" she whispered to herself, aware that a few beds over was an injured Alice, who probably didn't want to be disturbed by the person who had gotten her in there. Augustus had been very particular about the time he took to head to the Hospital Wing. He couldn't go immediately, that would appear too desperate. He couldn't wait for too long, than there'd be no justification for the fact that he was still sporting Ravenclaw colours. He had to time it just right so that it wouldn't seem that he had rushed to get there, and, yet, it would be quite believable that he hadn't had a chance to return to his dorm room yet. (It was important to be still wearing her colours, just in case she hadn't noticed at the game, after all.) Walking into the Hospital Wing at a time he believed to be the perfect balance, Augustus walked over to the bed she lay in. "Tough break," he said meaning it in both a figurative and literal manner. "Care for some company?" If Matty was surprised (which she was) she tried not to let it show as Augustus suddenly appeared at her bedside, looking very spirited in Blue and grey. "Augustus!" Matty gasped in suprise, her frown immeditely turning into a large smile as she took in his prescence, "what are you doing here?" her grin quirked at the side, still disbelieving that he had come to see her, and it hadn't even been too long since she had left the pitch. And he was wearing..."oh no," Matty suddenly sighed, "you wore the blue, and we lost," she covered her face with her hands, not believing that she had forgotten yet another reason why she should never leave this bed. "I'm so sorry I asked you to wear that," she bit her lip and fingered her wrist absentmindedly, hoping that he wasn't here to insult her or rub it in. Augustus took a seat in a chair next to her bed, offering an empathetic smile. "Well I certainly wouldn't have been caught dead in Gryffindor colours, there's enough anti-Gryffindor feelings amongst my Housemates that wearing your colours was accepted as an act against the Lions," he shrugged. "I would have preferred if you won, but I'm not here to make you feel worse." Augustus found it quite easy to be nice to Matilda, he didn't have to go through nearly as much effort choosing his words as he did with some others at the school. "What do you think, is blue flattering on me?" he offered a smirk, attempting to distract her at least a little from the outcome of the game. Matty smirked and sat up a little straighter in her bed, watching as he shifted next to her. "I would have prefered if we won too," she smile slightly, perhaps understating, "but I think you should start wearing blue on a regular basis, and not just for my--our games." She bit her lip as she corrected herself and went back to fiddling with the damned bandage around her broken wrist. "I suppose you're here to try and make me feel better," she turned back to him, eyes slightly troubled, "but I can assure you that it's not necessary, we should have won." She shook her head " it's ridiculous how a game comes down to one little snitch, even if the team who gets it, isn't winning in the first place," she shifted so that her torso was turned more towards Augustus than the wall in front of her, " not that I'm bitter or anything," she grinned. Augustus smiled, amused as she put on the tough act. He was a quidditch player, there was no way any quidditch player at heart could take a loss so well. "If you don't need a bit of cheering up than I'm a bloody Gryffindor," Augusts shook his head, laughing lightly. "I admire the toughness, though. As a fellow player of the sport, I know you're probably hurting more than just your wrist." Though, he didn't want her to think she had to vent about the frustration. "It was a fantastic match, quite intense, even. My motivation to come here was far more selfish than simply to cheer you up, however." Imagining Augustus as a Gryffindor was almost too ridiculous to imagine but it swiftly earned him a smile as she thought about it. He was very perceptive, and Matty wasn't sure if she just wasn't used to people looking close enough to see what she was really feeling or if it was the fact that it was him noticing, but she felt the tenseness in her shoulders start to ebb away. "How about we stick to blue right now, I don't think your housemates could handle the red.." she made a face, "in fact I think there would be mutiny." She grinned again and adjusted her pillow, her eyebrows drawing down as she addressed his last comment, "so why are you here then?" "I knew that I could come seek your company and you'd have no where else to be. It cut down on the chance of rejection immensely," Augustus teased, leaning back a bit, placing his hands behind his head. Augustus glanced across Matty, fully taking in the scene for the first time since arriving. She was in her dirty robes, looking quite worn, her hair looking a hot mess from the wind... yet it was oddly very attractive to him. Why weren't women supposed to play quidditch again? Matty was constantly making him question these beliefs that were held so strong by house mates. One look at the bird and he could tell she had played her heart out today, and despite the slightly ragged appearance, Augsusts couldn't help but be attracted. "How's your wrist? Aside from the obvious, I mean. How many nasty potions do you have to drink before it's mended?" "Rejection?" Matty laughed and leaned back into her pillow, "is that really all I do it you, reject you?" she smiled a very girlish smile, pleased for some reason. She really had no idea why Augustus had taken a sudden notice to her, though she really couldn't complain. He was quite possible the fittest bloke she knew, and the very fact that he was willing to wear the blue and even come to see her when she was at her worst spoke volumes to her. At the mention of her injury Matty's eyes went from Augustus' to the white bandage that covered up the majority of her molted blue bruises. "Well I don't think that pain potion worked so well, so there's an incisstent throbbing, but other than that it's peachy keene-er..fine I mean," she blushed at the slip of a phrase she was using as of late after watching muggle films. "As for the amount of potions I have to drink, I hope my last one was a half an hour ago." "Peechy keen?" Augsuts asked, raising an eyebrow. He honestly hadn't heard that one before, though, found himself chuckling a bit when she corrected himself. "I think the best pain remedy is a distraction..." Augustus conjured up a small set of felt tip markers (as anyone knows attempting to sketch anything with a quill is, well, not very easy). "May I?" he asked holding up a marker and glancing toward her bandaged arm. "It's an American phrase," she commented absentmindedly as she looked from the set of markers to her arm. "What exactly do you plan on doing with those?" Eyebrow raised she smiled unsurely, wondering if he was going to attack her with them. "Oh, just make this broken wrist not seem so bad, or at least, make the bandage not look so bad." Augustus shrugged. "Do you trust me?" Yes, it was a loaded question, with implications deeper than just if she trusted him doodling on this bandage of hers. He was trying to test out the water and get a glimpse of her opinion of him, being the repuation Slytherins held in the school. Matty's suspicions melted away and she shrugged, lifting her arm towards him so that he could draw on the bandage easier. "Yes," she answered simply, smiling as she said it, " just no rainbows or anything of that kind, I'm not a fan of the cute." She blushed again thinking about how many times her own mother had to take back a jumper with a pink heart on it before she understood that her youngest daughter would have none of that. Her eyes lingered on him slightly longer and she thought back to what Enid had said about him. From where she was sitting, she couldn't see any evidence to distrust him, especially with him being here with her right now. Augustus began sketching upon her bandage, careful not to put much pressure on it or cause it any pain from the drawing. "There's no need to worry about that. I'm not the type of bloke to go around sketching rainbows and cute stuff," he laughed. "I know I might have given you that impression wearing your colours, but trust me, I've still got that whole male macho nature hidden in there somewhere," Augustus looked up and gave her a playful wink, before returning his glance down to the sketch. Matty snorted and rolled her eyes, biting her lip as she watched him draw on her bandage. She hadn't realized that she was holding her breath until she practically choked on it when she tried to speak. "I'll admit I was worried," leaning in further to see what exactly he was drawing, careful to make sure her hair didn't get in his way. "I was afraid I'd have to continue with this rejection cycle and trade you in for someone who has no idea what a bunny is. Good thing you're so manly," she teased, clicking her tongue. The pressure of his hand on her wrist was helping erase any feelings of pain, in fact it was doing quite the opposite. "If I am to be rejected, it won't be because I'm a bunny hugging nancy boy," he said in an exaggerated manly tone. "I do have a reputation to protect," he added as he finished up the sketch. "Perfect," he smirked, putting the markers down and letting her see the picture of a lion getting it's eyes clawed out by an eagle. "See? Not fluffy or cute, definitely not a bunny.." "Whatever you say you-" she broke off as she saw what he had drawn, and found she couldn't actually speak. The detail that went into the eagle clawing out the lion's eye probably would have made anyone sick, but she couldn't help but be incredibly touched. "That's brilliant," she said soflty then repeating herself more exhuberantly, "I think after I'm done healing I may possibly frame it, or maybe it should be our new flag," she grinned brightly "even a Gryffindor would have to admire the artistry." Without thinking, Matty leaned forward and wrapped her arms around his neck, careful not to bump her arm in the process. "Thankyou" she whispered, still smiling, "I think I really needed that." Truth be told, Augustus wasn't sure how she was going to react to the graphic depiction on her bandage. The fact that she really seemed to like it, though, only cemented the idea that Matilda Dukelow was not like the average girl. He'd dare say she was better. That didn't stop him from being entirely surprised when she wrapped her arms around his neck. Augustus took a second to regain his focus, after being taken by surprise, and wrapped his arms around her to return the hug, resisting the urge to kiss her considering that in the Hospital Wing wasn't the most ideal of places for that sort of activity. "I am going to venture out enough to say that it appears we've passed the rejection phase," he teased, "Apparently I should have worn blue and grey sooner." Matty closed her eyes for a moment before drawing back, wincing only slightly when she knocked her wrist against her thigh as she put her arms back down. "Who would have guessed the key to cracking open the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain was wearing her colours," she fingered the bandage almost fondly before commenting dryly, "unfathomable." She leaned forward again, almsot hesitant before giving him a quick kiss on the cheek in thanks leaning back once more so that she could show him her bandage again "I do hope you're going to sign this, how else will I get above market value for it when you're famous?" It was sufficient to say that Augustus had completely improved her mood, and she wondered how she could have been so upset in the first place |
