Josh & Clare - BACKDATED
11-10-2007 RP: Joshua Bones and Clare Breckenridge
Characters: Josh & Clare
Setting: Masquerade - Backdated
Summary: Forced date FTW
Josh was more than surprised, upon entering the Great Hall, to find himself walking away from Enid. She seemed to be compelled to find something too, but he cast her an apologetic smile before parting ways with her. He figured he'd go back to her in a few minutes once he discovered why he HAD to go in this particular direction. Practical joke, perhaps?
Then he saw her. A girl with a mask wearing the a matching one to his. Immediately he figured out what was going on, though, not to what extent. Knowing it was senseless to fight it, he figured, perhaps the only way to break the spell upon the masks was to dance or talk to the girl he was connected to. There had to be some way the spell would break, the Headmaster wouldn't have them spend the entire night attatched to a stranger, would he?
Josh walked up to the girl, who seemed to be walking toward him at the same time, "I think, I figured out the catch," he said feeling a bit awkward, truth be known. "Why this ball was mandatory, rather. I'm -" Josh felt like he had forgotten his own name. Why couldn't he tell her? So he thought about saying that he was the Head Boy, that didn't work either. Blast.
"I'm rather tongue tied, that is. Perhaps we should get some punch?"
Clare issued a long sigh the moment she felt herself being pulled toward this bloke. She had seen the reactions to this stunt as the other students were pulled to one another - although she did have a feeling some of them were being a bit overdramatic. Either way, though, she wasn't about to allow herself to fall into that group that was just being, well, daft. After all, it wasn't as though Clare had come with a date. This way she didn't have to just be the third wheel to Enid - oh, the irony. She would have appreciated it more if she had any idea who the bloke was, though.
"Punch sounds rad," Clare looked around, finding the punch table and not waiting for the bloke with his matching mask to lead the way. Her hair was pulled back and out of her face for once, rather than falling limply around her shoulders. She was even wearing what she hated to admit (but it was impossible to do otherwise) a gorgeous gown that her mother had sent her. She couldn't help wondering why it had to look so expensive - years ago that wouldn't have been a problem. However, she was wearing it and, well, Clare was pretty positive she was hot.
Finding her manner again, once she reached the punch table, she took two glasses and turned to give one to the bloke she was apparently paired with. "Oh, by the way, I'm -- " As soon as she tried to say her name, she was cut off and she understood just why he'd said he was tongue tied. "Nevermind, then."
Joshua took the glass from her, feeling slightly sheepish. She was, after all, eliminating the whole idea of chivalry right off the bat. He supposed maybe it was better this way, much less like a date date. "Well seeing as I cannot tell you my name, nor can you tell me yours, and I'd rather not have to say 'hey, you' all evening, do you mind if I call you Lucy tonight?"
It was a rather random name, but Ted had turned him into a Beetles fan a few years ago.
"I really hope this isn't a horrid inconvenience. I would hate to think this was going to ruin your evening being stuck with my company. But, er, we can try to figure out how to break the spell if you'd like?"
Clare laughed slightly, holding the punch up a bit. "D'you really think we're gonna be able to break something Dumbledore's concocted?" she asked, raising an eyebrow behind the mask but giving a bit of a doubtful smile for him to see. "Somehow I'm thinking that we're gonna be stuck together until he decides he's done."
"Anyway, you can definitely call me Lucy if I get to call you Jude," she agreed, her doubtful smile turning more genuine and sincere. After all, it wasn't everyday she found someone who knew anything about the Beatles. She'd decided that not enough wizarding people opened up to Muggle music, preferring for boring shite. Celestina Warbeck? What the fuck was that about, anyway?
"Nah, I hardly doubt that we'd be able to break this spell. Unless it was meant to be broken, which.." Josh glanced around and saw many unhappy match ups, "it doesn't appear that it is."
Despite the amount of pouts going around the room, Josh didn't think that this was horrid. He'd be able to spend time with Enid later and make it up to her (and to be honest, it was probably a good thing he was separated from her and that incredibly sexy dress, much less temptation this way). His new date didn't seem so bad either, and hey, if she knew who the Beetles were it eliminated the chances of him being stuck with an elitist snot, which helped Josh to relax a bit.
"I think I can live with being called Jude. Much worse nicknames you could have come up with, I'm sure," he smirked.
Josh glanced around the room once more before looking at the girl he was paired with, "So, Lucy, I don't know who you are, or much about you, but the way I see it, we have two choices. We could stand around and pout, complain, or yell at each other - which it seems most of our peers are doing. Or.. we could make the most of it, go with the flow of this crazy idea, and.. dance, perhaps?"
Dancing with another bird wasn't cheating on his girlfriend, was it? He hardly doubted so, but in the back of his mind, he hoped Enid was dancing with her date, whomever her new date would be.
