Mary & Sirius BACKDATED
11-10-2007 RP: Sirius Black and Mary Macdonald
Characters: Sirius & Mary
Setting: Forced date at the Ball; Backdated
Summary: Sirius finds himself stuck to the mysterious girl behind the matching mask. He's rather frusterated at not knowing who the bird is, but after a few minutes, he just focuses on having a good time, instead.
Sirius really wasn't that torn up about the fact that his mask had apparently linked him to some mysterious bird. A first glance over, the bird was fit, after all. More than that, he would have fun despite a forced date, when didn't he have fun? Tierney.. well, it wasn't like they were in love, there'd be other opportunities for her company.
Mostly, he just shrugged it off and rolled with the punches. (He was, after all, far better off than James, who had FINALLY gotten a date with Lily only to have that effort be for naught.)
Upon feeling his mask pull him toward this mysterious bird, whom for the life of him he couldn't figure out the identity of. (He was rather disappointed in himself, he would have expected to be able to identify most of the female student body by their.. form, but apparently that was not the case.
He tested the waters, trying to walk away from her, and found that he was compelled once again to stay in close proximity with the bird. He laughed, a tad amused by this situation, already forming his counter arguments the next time he was caught snogging a bird in a deserted corridor or broom closet, planning on defending himself with the idea that apparently the headmaster wishes the student body was closer to one another.
"It appears that we are stuck." Sirius said simply, smirking.
The last week building up to the Halloween Ball had been pretty uneventful for Mary. She had been very sick with some sort of cold-like illness, and just felt gross, stuffy, and achy all week long. The potions she was given only dulled the pain, and it was something she had to get over herself. Luckily, it was over before the ball, even if she didn't have a date.
Mary had been out of her dorm the entire day of the ball, and upon returning she was more than a little surprised to find a new mask in the place of her own, on her bed. She wasn't disappointed though, because on closer inspection she decided that it was much nicer than the one she had intended on wearing, and the specks of silver in it even matched her dress. After reading the note that was left with the mask she concluded that it was for her to wear, but she was still a little confused. She finished dressing, before putting on the mask and making her way to the Great Hall.
It wasn't long after Mary entered the hall that she spotted a boy wearing a mask like her own. Normally she would have brushed it off as just coincidence, but this time she felt a strong urge to be near him - so much so she had to use all her will to keep her feet from walking her in his direction. There really wasn't much need for it though, since the boy had managed to find his way in her direction.
Mary wasn't sure who the boy was, and found herself shocked that she couldn't find a single thing recognizable about him. It was as if he had never existed, but she believed it was only that they had never met. As soon as he managed to reach her, Mary was disappointed to find him walking away, but when he started to get more than a couple steps out of reach, she stumbled a few steps in his direction, as if she had to follow him- and then he finally decided to speak.
"Stuck?" she asked, raising an eyebrow, but she knew exactly what he was talking about. "There's a pick-up line I haven't heard."
"Well, then, clearly we haven't snogged yet," Sirius smirked, joking, testing the waters to be more accurate. No, he never really used a stuck line as a pick up, that he could remember, but that was beside the point. Had he snogged this bird in the past? Had he tried? Who was she?
Knowing his luck it'd be a cousin, Enid, Narcissa, Andromeda... hm. He wouldn't be paired up with a relative in this experiment of Dumbledore's, would he? Perish the thought, Sirius was quite confused as to how to act around this bird, a feeling he never really had around women since he was 13. Typically, he would either try to charm their pants off, or tease them horribly (if they were related), or some degree in between. How was he to decide how to act to a bird he didn't know.
Still, the idea of snogging a complete stranger, without knowing who was behind the mask was kind of... tempting. More tempting than it should be considering Sirius knew the girl behind the mask could actually be one of his three cousins. Though, at least he knew it wasn't his brother.
"I find myself at a loss, as I don't believe we've met," Sirius said slipping into both his entirely too proper (thanks to many years of training) language, mixed with his charming boy-next-door smile. That smile, in fact, took him a full two months practise in front of a mirror to finally pull off, too much mischief being evident on his face. "Though, I must say, tonight must be yo- my lucky night."
There was an arrogance and confidence in how the boy spoke to her. Mary found the boy to be familiar, but she couldn't think of where she might have met him. As far as who was standing in front of her, well she had no idea.
I'm sure I've met you before, she thought, as he spoke. She didn't want to say anything though, because it was impossible to tell just by looking at him when there was a mask hiding the majority of his face.
"That is an optimistic way of looking at it," she said, taking a step closer to him so that she didn't have the weird pressure on her that came from being right at the edge of their 'boundary.' "For all you know I'm horribly disfigured under this mask." Mary raised an unseen eyebrow. She mused on the thought of introducing herself, and decided it was better to at least know who she was stuck to. "I'm Meeeh," she paused. "Meeehlony. Melony." It was the first thing that came out when she realized she couldn't say her name. There was something very odd going on there.
"And you?"
