Lucas had such a terrible day yesterday that it had to be some kind of nightmare. It had started out well enough, he'd done his chores and was helping out around the house because his dad wasn't feeling well, but then he'd discovered the secret of his birth, that his best friend was his father, not the man he'd thought. No, it had turned out that Cameron Mitchell was his uncle and that Dean Winchester didn't want anything to do with him. That was how Lucas had taken it, anyway, since he didn't want to be a father. He had his fancy new life with Lena so it wasn't like it wouldn't be long before Dean had a kid he actually wanted. He'd been angry and hurt, so he'd avoided going home for a while, at least until he didn't feel like he was going to scram at his uncle.
But by the time he'd gotten home, the house was empty. It had definitely seemed weird, but Lucas had been relieved at first. That was, until he'd gotten to the kitchen counter and saw the note from Lorna. Cam had died and the last words he'd said to him were in anger. Devastated, Lucas did the only thing he could think of and snuck into his girlfriend's room. He'd just cried and cried, wore himself out without being able to even put all the awfulness into words. He'd just needed to cling to her and cry and sleep hadn't come easy, but it had helped some.
Except when he woke up, he knew it all had happened. He exhaled slowly as he tried to fight back even more tears. "Riles?" he said, his voice hoarse and scratchy. Between the crying and the yelling, he sounded exactly as pathetic as he felt.
