It was surreal to even be knocking on Matt's door at the moment. After the months she'd spent letting herself into his apartment back in New York, coming over here like this always felt a little strange, but she still knocked out of politeness.
"Matt, it's me," she said, even though Karen was fully aware he already knew that. When there was no answer, she tested the doorknob and since it was unlocked, she let herself in. "Matt?" Stepping into the apartment, Karen automatically reached for the light switch. It wouldn't affect him, but she felt a little better when she saw him illuminated by the lamp near the couch. "Hey, you." Shutting the door, she dropped her purse on the table beside it as she locked it, then walked over to him.
"How long have you been sitting here like this?" Karen asked as she stopped beside him and rested her hands on her hips.
