She made a quiet noise when he said he understood. That was what made it so easy to tell him in the first place. She didn't mind that he didn't know what to say or how to make it better. It helped to just talk to someone about it. Someone who didn't insist that she apologize or fix it or anything.
"It's okay. You're doing a pretty good job of it," Cassie told him, though her voice was muffled a bit as she stayed close to him. After a little while, she leaned up to kiss him, a way to say thank you for listening, for being there, for holding her. She was content to let the distraction take them where it wanted for now. They had a little while yet before the fireworks would be done anyway.
