Cassie pretended not to notice his reaction to the fireworks and focused on her sketchbook instead. She was a little surprised to hear that his garden would change with every season, since she'd expected he'd just plant the same things again if it was needed, not that he'd just redo the garden every time the seasons changed.
"I guess I'll have to do it again when winter comes," she replied as she leaned into his touch. Cassie was doing her best to not get too caught up in it because she knew it didn't mean anything more than what they'd already decided on for their friendship. It still felt nice though, a much better distraction. And even though she didn't want to talk about what was going on with her, he'd started to open up so she needed to do the same.
"I um. You remember how the first thing I asked was if you made it out alive?" she asked after a few moments of just listening to the music. It was as much a way to distract him from the fact that they could still hear the occasional pop of the fireworks.
"My mom died in her world. To save everyone else. And my dad? He basically merged with the Hulk so now if either of them leave? They won't come back like how they are now." That was, probably, her biggest fear, and a huge part of why she wasn't allowing herself to think of what was going on between her and Briar as anything other than friendship. She couldn't stand to lose them again.
