The funny part was, Rose was honestly bothered by the fact that they were dressed fairly modernly, her accent was a dead giveaway she wasn't local, and somehow money was a thing they made work. As someone who had been shopping on many planets in many times, it was sort of fascinating that it still concerned her. But here she was, and she didn't mind. Honestly, the city was beautiful. Much nicer than what she'd seen on television of New Orleans, probably due to the time period. It hadn't had time to become the city of debauchery for Mardi Gras she'd seen.

She looked over at Brooke and offered a smile. The blonde wasn't much younger than she was, and she seemed desperate to give off that "Mean Girl" air, but she liked her. She seemed like she could settle in well if she let herself do so. Besides, there was nothing wrong with being a bit spoiled as long as she didn't do so in horribly selfish ways. Rose could work with that.

"Clothes shopping during the Civil War seems weird," she admitted. "We're literally not going to want to wear any of this at home." Unless maybe she created a costume. "We could talk Kate into carrying a vintage line? I just don't see it catching on," she added with a laugh. "But I wouldn't turn down some of the art for my flat."

Brooke knew the way she came across to people, and if she was honest, she was torn on how she wanted people to see her these days. For the longest time, she was a shallow, snobbish, and a complete bitch, Brooke would never deny that. Only she was trying to be a better person and not like her old self. Until now when she felt being mean would maybe keep people safe from being stuck in a Maddox web considering the trouble her family seemed to bring lately.

Right now though she wasn’t thinking about any of that, and was more focused on shopping and hanging out with this pretty cool woman. If Brooke was going to be stuck in this dome situation unable to use daddy’s credit card to punish him before a complete ass, she’d have to settle for some grief shopping. It was better than going for alcohol to deal with the loss of a friend, and she might as well make some use of this portal. Then add in the great company, it was a win in Brooke’s mind.

“You never know. I don’t know about where you’re from, but in my time old trends are always coming back and maybe this might be one. Not really my style, might be for someone else.” she commented with a small shrug. “You can also take some of the designs and work with it,” she pointed out one woman walking nearby, “Cut some from the bottom, maybe do some cutting around the arms, and you can maybe with the right work come up with something new.” While Brooke loved her fashion, she wasn’t a designer. “I do need to brighten my room up so I can get behind some art. What type of art are you thinking for your flat? I don’t even know what art was like back in this time.” She admitted, but Rose probably had a better idea or they’d find out while searching.

"Old trends, sure. But like...the sixties. Those Beatles haircuts made a comeback a few years ago. That one Harry Potter movie, I swear, all the kids had it. It was surreal. I kept expecting them to wear bell bottoms under their wizardy clothes." Because wizardy was a word. Obviously.

But she looked at the woman Brooke pointed out and considered. She tilted her head, trying to picture what she was painting. "You've got an eye for this. Have you ever considered design?" Maybe one of the girls could help her get started. She might get on with Evie, or Sally was super friendly if a little shy. She of course had no idea her suggestion completely countered Brooke's own thoughts.

She considered the art in the windows of the shops they'd looked at. "I don't know. Plain paintings would be cool but we've got so many artists back in Madison I feel like I should be supporting. Maybe some cool sculptures or something that would be considered antiques back home?" Not that she was entirely sure when she'd started calling Madison Valley home. It would have to do for the moment. She obviously wasn't heading back to either version of London any time soon.

For a moment Brooke blanked on who the Beatles were, but then remember her dad talking about them. She couldn’t name a single song by them she didn’t think; however, she knew the look enough to know what Rose was talking about. “Maybe some of them were. You didn’t always see them all,” she replied with a smirk. Though she doubt it, but the image was slightly amusing to think of the kids wearing that stuff under the robes.

At Rose’s compliment, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow before waving it off. While used to compliments from people her own age usually about her looks, it wasn’t all that often she got them from adults. Even more so when those compliments had nothing to do with her looks. “No, I’m more for putting the outfits together or helping someone with their makeup rather than designing.” Though Brooke would be lying if she wasn’t playing with the idea for a brief moment, enjoying how someone told her something she was good at while offering up advice.

“How many artists do you know back in Madison or better yet what type of style are they known for with their work?” Brooke didn’t completely pay attention to that type of stuff, making her a bit out of her element on the people that fit that category. “You can always look and if you see something that’s less likely to get back in Madison, then you can grab it?” No matter how good the people back in the other place was, she was willing to bet Rose could find at least one or two pieces of art that she had to have and couldn’t get back in Madison. “Could do like a little Civil era of art work in one room or a wall depending on the size of your place?”

"The cute blonde girl wasn't in that one, she's probably the hippie type." Rose wasn't huge on the 'nerd' culture, but the Harry Potter movies were enjoyable enough. Though she'd turned down an offer to work for a Weasley twin and that was still taking some getting used to.

Rose considered that thought. "There's absolutely still careers for that. Personal stylists. Makeovers. We don't even have a proper department store here or I'd say look at getting a job at a makeup counter. Or a Sephora. I didn't think I'd miss Sephora." It had never really been her scene. They'd never exactly had the money. But she'd loved combing the counters and the few times she'd been focused enough to attend her dad's events, she'd raided the place.

"Oh, that's right, you missed the art festival, didn't you? We have loads of artists. Most of them do paintings, really pretty ones. But I like the idea of having just a few various pieces from here." It would definitely be unique. Something no one else in the city would have.

“Blonde girl?” While Brooke had watched the movies, it was only the one time through and wasn’t one of those who ever visited them again. “Oh, I think Luna? Was that her name? But I see more hippie type clothes on her though they may have said no.” Brooke was never shy about talking about people. Before Nina’s death, it was a lot more cruel. Now it had toned down a bit and was more about their fashion or attitude towards her new group of friends than anything.

Brooke listened to what Rose offered up for her around job choices. That was something she never even thought about since Brooke never had to get a job after school. “I do love Sephora. It’s always fun to go in and try some things out, but I usually end up buying quite a bit from that store,” the joy of having money, she never had to worry. Since both her parents were never around, her way of making up for the loss was by spending their money on whatever she want and sleeping with whoever she wanted. “I’ll have to see what the place offers. Now that my main concern isn’t living to see myself graduating from High school I can try the whole summer and after school job.”

Nodding at the question on missing the art festival, she pushed a piece of her hair out of her face before a thought came to her with a look of excitement. “Oh! I know! I don’t know how big your flat is or how often these portal things happen. Do they happen often? Anyways,” she shook her head while continuing on, “not important. While you could get some from people in Madison, you can start your own little collection. Maybe from every portal we get, if they have art you get two or three pieces? You could have art from all different places.” It was an idea and one Brooke was proud of though she didn’t know how the other woman would feel about it.
