It wasn't weird running errands for the house anymore, hadn't been weird for a long time. It wasn't even weird having a kid with him, since he'd been taking Aurie with him for ages. (He didn't have her this time, but still.) What was weird was the fact that now he had his own kid with him. A lot of things were weird now that it was his own kid, though, and he was pretty sure that one wasn't going to change any time soon.
Some of them were weirder than others, though, and grocery shopping was the kind of thing where Murphy was just looking forward until Alex was old enough for him to start piling things on top of the kid. As it was, he'd already nestled very small things in with Alex just in the name of taking pictures. Nobody ever said that John Murphy was a mature adult, alright? He was the sort of adult you'd find on the list of guys who shouldn't be left alone with their kid or they'd do stuff like put a sticker on the kid's head and pretend it was a kiwi.
At the moment, though, Alex was sleeping as Murphy pushed the cart -- with the carrier set firmly in the seat part of the cart, thank you -- so he was lucky on his father not using him as a future meme. And Murphy? Well, Murphy was going down the list and crossing off things he'd missed crossing off. Because with as much as they tended to need in the house, the list got big sometimes.
