Who: Fred Weasley and OPEN.
What: Fred goes out for Hinkles.
Where: Hinkles.
When: Friday, March 15.
Warnings: Likely low.
Status: Open | Incomplete

Fred was hungry as he'd gotten to work rather early and had worked through lunch. So Hinkles was a definite necessity before heading home. He didn't usually stop by the burger place, but they had delicious food and it was quick and easy. So... there he was, having just entered the restaurant. He studied the available options of what he could order, though he had a vague idea of what he wanted. Okay, more than a vague idea. He knew exactly what he wanted.

He proceeded to order a bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, and a strawberry milkshake. Because Fred could eat pretty much anything and not gain weight. It was beneficial to the redhead. He definitely wasn't going to complain. Because, really, why would he?

He did like his food. Food was delicious.

Mal wouldn't say that Hinkles were part of her roaming grounds, but it was. If she wasn't at her other usual places, Mal could typically be found at Hinkles. Especially when her favorite waitress, Bertha, was working. She had bonded with the woman rather quickly considering they shared a similar namesake.

The woman could also make the best strawberry milkshakes. Given Mal didn't have much to compare them to, they were simply the best.

Which was exactly the thing that caught her attention when she came in and gave Bertha a wave. Someone else was sipping at a strawberry milkshake. It wasn't completely out of the ordinary, but it definitely wasn't the go-to flavor for most Mal had noticed.

"That's not the last strawberry shake, is it?"

Fred looked up at the sound of a woman's voice. A woman referring to the exact kind of milkshake he happened to be drinking. "Oh, but it is." He offered the woman a teasing smile. "Actually, I have no idea. They didn't tell me it was, at least." Not that he really expected them to. They didn't owe him anything. Except his food.

"They better have more, though, because this is delicious."

Fred was more than friendly, really. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. Even about strawberry milkshakes. "I'm Fred, and I am pleased to meet someone with good taste. With milkshakes, at least."

"Mal," she offered, though Mal didn't hide the grin in regard to his good taste comment. It was true after all even if others didn't think so.

"So, what I see is that I have a competitor vying for getting the best strawberries in their milkshake." Taking a seat beside him, Mal's own milkshake was served with a few extra strawberries in a small ball with it.

Acknowledging her favorite waitress with a wave, Mal turned her attention back to Fred.

"I think I'm winning, though."

"Oh no, you have found me out," he said with a grin. "I was trying to win dear Bertha's heart so she would give me the best strawberries so you would be stuck with second-rate fruit." Okay, so that definitely wasn't what he'd planned that afternoon when going to Hinkles. But he didn't need to tell Mal that, right?

"That just means I haven't quite won her over yet. I mean, you probably have a head start. But don't think you've won just yet. I am a close second."

This was a completely ridiculous conversation, and Fred was loving every moment of it. He was a ridiculous sort of person. He was just glad Mal was willing to be ridiculous about milkshakes.

"Oh? You think so?" Mal asked with a raised a brow. Shaking her head, she chuckled and took a bite of one of the strawberries. "Because I don't think you have much of a chance. Bertha and me? We have a connection that no one else has."

Munching in the strawberry, Mal entertained herself briefly by stirring her spoon in her milkshake. With magic. It followed behind her finger that drew a continuous circle in the air.

"When you're on the winning side? You might even get a shot or two of chocolate mixed in."

Fred was distracted for a moment, "You can do magic. Without a wand." He knew there were different kinds of magic users here, but this was the first time he'd actually seen someone doing a different sort of magic. "That is bloody brilliant."

Yes, he was able to do some wandless magic. But for the most part? He needed his wand.

"Chocolate and strawberry? That sounds absolutely delicious." Now he definitely wanted to be on the winning side. He liked that flavor combination.
