He'd been more than a little on edge ever since Lucifer had shown up again. Never mind that it wasn't the Lucifer from his world, Adam didn't particularly want to deal with him ever again. He'd spent too much time trapped in a cage with the archangel, with no way out. Now he was just trapped in a larger space with Lucifer, still with no way out.
His only consolation -- small though it was -- was the fact that both his brothers were there, that he wasn't the only one dealing with this. That his brothers were there, had to deal with their own baggage about Lucifer. None of them had to deal with it quite like he did, but even so. They knew he had his problems. (Though admittedly, Sam understood better.)
Adam didn't want Lucifer getting anywhere near the clinic, had an irrational protective streak when it came to the building. The clinic meant so much to the town itself, to so many people. He didn't trust Lucifer to not do something, hadn't trusted him the previous time he'd been in town. And yes, Adam knew he could only be so suspicious for so long, but he was going to get everything he could out of it and was going to hang onto it for as long as he could.
He sat in one of the booths in Hinkle's, eating what was passing for dinner and texting Katie's babysitting to let the girl know he'd be on his way home in a little bit, and asking how Katie had been. Adam liked to eat as well as he could, tried to make sure Katie ate well too. The majority of the recipes he made were courtesy of Piper. But sometimes, he'd reward Katie. And sometimes he'd just flat out spoil her, like now. He knew she'd been picking up on his stress.
And that was the last thing he wanted.
Sighing, he picked up his glass and took a sip of his drink.
