Lou’s Bar had become one of his favourite places to frequent in the short time he had been in this place, even if he knew he could not afford to keep spending so much time there until he got a job. Which was a whole other problem to worry about, and one he didn’t have the mind to deal with today. Today he had scarcely wanted to leave his bed. What he really wanted, aside from perhaps another drink or two, was his friend. He wished for, longed for Joly’s presence in a way that surprised him. Shouldn’t having Enjolras here have been enough? It was like a dream come true. To be the only person here the blond truly knew, it should have been a sort of blessing.
Instead, he was left watching his impassioned friend adapt to the place all too easily, chatting to people with ease, and (if he was honest with himself) starting on the path toward leaving him behind.
He really needed to chase away such disheartening thoughts with another drink. The wine glass by his elbow was nearing to empty, and he could almost hear his favourite disapproving voice in his head telling him to order another now would be foolhardy.
The bar had a homely sort of feel, which he supposed may have accounted for it being a little quieter. That, or the time of day. But honestly, knowing so few people he liked that. He could sit and drink and sketch and wish away his melancholic thoughts in peace. No one seemed particularly bothered by, or interested in, his frequenting of the table in the corner in solitude. Hunched over his sketchbook without an audience, he could bring his friends to life in charcoal and pretend they were here with him.
