Christmastime was Ella's favorite time of year. She loved any holiday that involved family and love and joy, so of course their home was all decked out as they spent their first Christmas as a family. She was often up with the sun too, baking away to ready her gifts for everyone, but today the strong arms of her husband were far too enticing. She curled into his embrace and let sleep take her again for a little while longer.
When she woke up next, it was with a strong desire to enjoy a more physically intimate with Jesse. Ella smiled warmly for a moment and then shifted so that she could kiss him. It was soft at first, it always was, but she knew it would be more than enough to pull him into more complete consciousness. Their kiss deepened considerably and just as their hands began to wander, the unfamiliar sound of children running down the hall past their bedroom door made her freeze.
"What..." Ella trailed off, a frown etched on her face as she withdrew her hands. "Is that...?" She wasn't sure what it was, but she had her suspicions. Children. Future children. Would it be the same children that had visited her and Kit? Additional children? Would she and Jesse have more like she so desperately wanted?

Having those kinds of mornings with Ella were certainly some of his favorite mornings. Any time he got to spend with Ella was good, though. They certainly weren’t starved for time or affection for each other, but it was nice when they could take their time.
There was just the slightest groan when Ella pulled away, but Jesse was just as interested in the sounds of children thundering throughout the house.
“You wait here,” he said, gentle but firm before he was pulling on sweatpants and a tee shirt. Jesse was cautious as he made his way toward the sounds before his voice carried back toward the bedroom. There was the obvious sound of surprise and urgency in it as well.
“Ella! Might want to see this!”

Ella climbed out of bed after her husband and put her robe on. She was a bit worried about having him inspect the potential children that had arrived in their home, but it did, at least, give her the chance to check on Max. He was gone, replaced by a familiar face. He was older once more, sound asleep still, so she went back to their room to get him some of Jesse's clothes in the meantime. They would be too big, but they'd do for now.
"Max, sweetheart, wake up." He was confused, of course, to wake up in a crib, but he was a good sport about it.
"Guess we took another trip back, huh?" he asked as he heard his dad calling for his mom. "I'll get changed, and be right out," Max promised.
Ella nodded, afraid to ask too many questions, and followed Jesse's call to see three children of varying ages in their living room. The little girl had wrapped herself around Jesse's legs and the youngest shot straight for Ella when she appeared.
"What's for breakfast?" the oldest boy asked, looking expectantly to both Ella and Jesse.
"Jack, we have to help Mommy and Daddy." The little girl looked up with big eyes at Jesse. "Daddy can we have pancakes?"
Ella breathed a sigh of relief. The children were Jesse's, even though they looked a great deal like the children she'd had with Kit.

It was a surprise despite the message that had circulated through the network not too long ago. A surprise to Jesse that, along with Max, he and Ella seemed to have a number of other children. He knew that a large family was something Ella wanted and he was not one to argue the idea. Jesse never imagined himself having anything like this. Not with his history or his present state of being back home. A wife and children had no place in a vigilante’s life. They would be in constant danger and Jesse was not about to put more innocents in harm’s way because of him and his decisions.
That was not the case here, though. Aside from the surprises from the Dome, they were relatively safe to enjoy this second chance.
Grinning down at the little girl, he bent down to scoop her up and let out a surprisingly animated sigh. “I don’t know, darling. Might be too late for pancakes. What do you think? Do you think it’s too late?” he asked as his free arm came to rest around Ella’s.
He wanted to reassure her that this would be okay. That if this was their future, he was receptive to the idea. Even if they hadn’t been his, but those of Ella and Kit, Jesse would have taken the children in without a second thought.

"I don't think it's ever too late for pancakes," Ella replied with a smile that barely contained the laughter she wanted to share behind it. She leaned into her husband's embrace for a moment before going into full Mom mode. It was clear that she was very much in her element as she led the way to the kitchen.
The sound of footsteps heralded the arrival of their eldest and Max gave Jesse a grin. "Hey Dad," he greeted. "Morning Jack, Lizzy, Mikey." That was more for his parents' benefit than his siblings. "Did I hear we're making pancakes?" As a teenager, he definitely usually thought with his stomach first.
Ella beamed. "Yes, exactly. And you can help your father set the table," she decided, while she set Mikey down to sit on the counter. "Lizzy, will you help me and your brother?" The little girl nodded eagerly and clamored to be put down so she could join her mom and little brother.
Max moved over to his dad and waved awkwardly. "So uh. Time travel. It's weird, huh?" He and his dad were super close, so it felt weird to not just automatically have that.

Happy to allow Ella to take charge, Jesse's attention could go to Max.
Max, the boy that he had been warming to while he was so young, now stood in full teenage mode. Fortunately, McCree was more equipped to handle kids at this age than he was when they were younger. "Weird's a way to put it," he commented before one arm reached out to pull Max into a hug.
Strong and warm, Jesse clapped a hand against Max's shoulder. "Kind of use to it, but I reckon you know that by now, huh?" He grinned and headed for the cabinets to fetch plates and cups. "How is it being the oldest? Wake up to many bugs under your pillow and the like?"
Because practical jokes were necessary when you had siblings or teammates who were older than you were. Not that Jesse would know anything about such things.
