Gibbs looked at her, simultaneously impressed and a little surprised but not really about what she was studying for. "Just for fun, huh? I guess you're just as brilliant here," he commented, suitably pleased even though he didn't really have any right to be because that wasn't the relationship they had here. It was a slip that he knew he couldn't make again until more time had passed and they could develop that kind of camaraderie for themselves here.
"What other classes are you taking this semester?" he asked, genuinely curious as he held the door to the diner open for her. They were led to Gibbs' usual table and within minutes of them being seated, a mug of black coffee was in front of him.
"Thank you, Millie," he said with a kind smile. "How're you? Is Charlie over that cold yet?"
"He's feeling much better, Mr Gibbs, thank you for asking. We're all good," Millie replied kindly. She turned to Gibbs' company, curious but not rude enough to ask. "What can I get you, ma'am?"
