Summer still wasn't feeling like herself. She thought it would have passed by now, but it hadn't. She'd never dealt with something so serious before. Whenever she'd been sad in the past, she got over it quickly. When her mother left when she was only thirteen, she moved on fast. She didn't need her. She had her dad, the most important person in her life. She never had deal with the death of someone she cared about. Until now.
She'd been a little quieter than usual, finding herself in the corners at recent party events. She wasn't very talkative in the cafeteria at school, sometimes choosing to eat alone under the bleachers if the weather was nice enough. She did cut class that one time, but she didn't make it a habit. That's why no one at home would have gotten a call about it. She wasn't really putting much effort into school, but at least she was there.
Now, she was sitting on the couch, snuggling with Pancakes. She could swear the bunny could sense her weird sadness. Even The Great British Bake Off on Netflix wasn't bringing her much joy.
"I could bake better than that guy," she said, referring to a contestant who put coconut on everything.
Pancakes twitched his nose in response, like usual. Maybe he really wasn't the best listener.
