Who: Fat Amy and Astrid Hofferson.
What: Match-up.
When: Sunday, May 6.
Where: Around town.
Warnings: Likely low.
Status: Closed | Incomplete.

Amy had the day off work, and had the strong urge to just... be outside. Or at least, out of the apartment. Not that she particularly minded her apartment, or sharing it with Jesse. In fact, it was quite the opposite. She enjoyed both of these things. But sometimes, she just needed to get out of the apartment. Which was the case today. So there she was, wandering around town.

She knew she needed to get some shopping done for the apartment, mainly groceries. But she would get to that eventually. Right now, she just wanted to take her time in town, just relaxing. Groceries could wait. She was currently eyeing a particular clothing store, determining whether she should go in and get some more clothes. She'd only arrived with one set of clothing, the clothing she'd been wearing, so she was slowly getting a decent-sized wardrobe here in Madison Valley. So clothing was necessary.

Yes, she decided, she would go in and get some clothes. Maybe. She had to figure out if she had spare funds to do so.

Astrid didn't have much of a wardrobe either. Or, any of a wardrobe, really. Back home, she wore pretty much the same few outfits all the time, because that was what everyone did. It was strange to see everyone here changing so frequently. People seemed to wear a different outfit every day, which seemed a bit wasteful to Astrid.

But maybe here, people just had that much. It was a bit hard to take in.

She found herself in front of a clothing store where another woman was standing out front. The girl seemed to be wearing fairly fashionable clothes (at least from what Astrid could tell), and in that moment she decided that she was going to get at least one outfit today.

"Excuse me," she said, very carefully, making sure that she was saying right. "Help me...please?"

It was true that most people seemed to wear a different outfit each day. Amy happened to be one of those people, and she disliked the fact that she had so few clothes here in Madison Valley. They really should have given the refugees more of a clothing allowance. But they didn't, so Amy's clothing choices were less than optimal.

She noticed the woman near her, looking at the clothes in the window. She offered the woman a small smile when the woman spoke, and she nodded. "Of course I'll help you." She knew that people came from different times and places, and she understood that sometimes clothing stores could be overwhelming for people.

"Come on, let's go inside," she said. And, as almost an afterthought, she offered "My name is Amy." She thought that the woman should at least know the name of the person helping her.

Astrid pointed to herself. "Astrid." She was understanding more and more English, but she still wasn't that great at speaking it. But she was making progress, and she couldn't really ask all that much more of herself.

She followed her inside, looking around. Astrid was lucky in the fact that she was tiny and rather petite - she had no idea what her size was, but when she was measured, she would almost certainly be a zero.

"What...look good on me?" She asked, feeling a little bit overwhelmed.

Amy could tell that Astrid's first language was not English. But she appeared to understand Amy pretty well, so that was a good thing. And Amy had no issues with repeating herself, or rephrasing anything that Astrid might not understand the first time. "It's nice to meet you, Astrid," she said with a smile. She was a pretty friendly person, and she knew that Astrid was most likely overwhelmed by this place. So she truly didn't mind helping the woman find some new clothing.

"Well," she started. "What do you feel comfortable in most, when you're at home? Because we want things that look good on you, as well as things that make you feel comfortable. You won't feel good in things if you feel uncomfortable in them."

She studied the woman for a moment, trying to determine what Astrid would feel most comfortable in, based on what she was already wearing. She then started to pull a few things off the racks, offering them to the woman as she did so. "Do you like any of these?" she asked.

The clothes and the fashions of this time were so weird to Astrid. They didn't look comfortable...or they didn't look like they were for girls...or they didn't look like something she'd wear out in public in a thousand years.

At Amy's question, she pointed at the skirt she was wearing.

"Like this, mostly," she said. It was a skirt, sure, but not a girly skirt. And she usually wore leggings under it because honestly, Berk was cold more than it wasn't.

"I don't know," she said, looking at the clothes. "Do...do you like?"

Amy studied Astrid's clothes for a moment. She had a feeling that Astrid would feel most comfortable in clothes similar to what she wore at home, so she decided to go for clothes similar to what the woman was wearing. It would be a good start. She started to pull a few skirts off the racks, ones that weren't too terribly girly. She understood that skirts could be not too girly, even for skirts.

"We can get you something similar to what you're wearing. I mean, they won't be the same, but they might feel the same." She nodded a bit at this. "We can get you some leggings, too, that might make you feel more comfortable."

She offered some of the skirts to Astrid for her opinion. "I like the skirts, but it's what you like that matters. I want you to feel comfortable in what you're wearing, that's what's important." Amy chose clothes for herself that made her feel comfortable. She wouldn't feel good in the clothes she was wearing if she didn't feel comfortable in them.

"What colors do you like?"

Astrid dressed mainly for comfort and mobility. She was a fighter, a warrior, and needed not to have her body constricted by fabric. That was a potentially fatal situation and she wasn't going to end up murdered by her own skirt. That would be humiliating on a thousand levels and the Valkyries would laugh at her all the way to Valhalla.

She looked at the offered skirts carefully, but wasn't quite sure how any of them would fit or feel.

"I...can try them on?"

While Amy wasn't a warrior, she understood not wanting to have her body constricted by fabric. She didn't really appreciate the feeling of constriction due to what she chose to wear. She wore what she was comfortable in. And murder by clothing didn't sound very appealing. So she understood where Astrid was coming from in regards to that.

She nodded at Astrid's question. "Of course you can try them on. There's a room over there," she motioned toward the dressing rooms, "that you can try them on in. I can find items similar to the ones you decide you like, after you've tried some on."

Amy rather enjoyed helping the girl with clothes. She loved clothes, and she loved helping people finding clothes that they liked.

Astrid looked towards the room and nodded, taking the handful of clothes she was carrying in that direction. She hoped they looked okay on her; she really didn't want to take all the time in the world to find a few outfits. That kind of time could be much better used with other things.

"That is good, thank you," she smiled.

In the dressing room, she took off her own clothes, and tried some of the others on. Some were too big, some were to tight, some definitely weren't her style. She finally settled on a skirt and a t-shirt that was rather close to what she had back home, then redressed and went out to find Amy, showing her what she'd selected.

"More like this?"

Amy had a feeling that some of the clothes she had picked out for Astrid wouldn't work out well for the girl, but she hoped that some of them would. She knew that Astrid probably didn't want to spend a whole lot of time choosing clothing, that she wanted something quick and easy.

She smiled when the girl came out of the dressing room with some clothes that she'd settled on. "We can definitely find more like that. I think that skirt comes in some different colors if you want to mix it up a bit."

She quickly found some more clothes similar to what Astrid had selected, and offered them to the blonde. It was easier now that she knew what she was looking for. "There are also some leggings that the store sells, that might work for you as well."

These clothes were alright. They weren't exactly what she wanted, but they were comfortable enough and enough like what she wore back home that she didn't feel self-conscious. Maybe she could look for some better stuff later.

"Thank you," she said, and headed up to pay.

"I buy you...coffee? For thanks?"

Amy was glad to have helped Astrid, even a little bit. She enjoyed shopping, and she enjoyed clothes. So helping a woman find clothes was fun for her. Luckily Astrid had run into Amy instead of someone else, someone who wouldn't have cared to help the woman.

"You are quite welcome, Astrid," she said with a smile. "And I would not turn down coffee, but you really don't need to. I was glad to do it." Amy did enjoy her coffee, though, an would gladly have some with the blonde woman. But she hadn't helped her in order to get a coffee or anything in return.

"I would...like to," she said. She didn't have very many friends in this town beside Hiccup and she wanted to get to know other people. She wasn't used to being so isolated.

"I pay, and then we go," she said with a nod, heading towards the front.

Amy smiled at Astrid, and nodded. "Then I will gladly take you up on your offer of coffee," she said. She really wasn't one to turn down an offer of free coffee. And if she made a new friend in the process? Even better.

"Yes, they do appreciate being paid for their merchandise," she agreed. She made her way to the front of the store, where she waited for Astrid. The girl had potential to be a good friend, Amy was sure of it.
