WHO: Nico di Angelo and OPEN
WHAT: Getting donuts
WHEN: Tuesday morning
WHERE: Horst's Little Bakery Haus
WARNINGS: TBD
STATUS: Open/Ongoing

Things were finally starting to warm up a little, and Nico was grateful for that. It had never gotten cold enough that it drove him from his warm, comfortable little cave, but he'd had to move back deeper and deeper inside and it kind of felt like the chill was chasing him. He didn't have to worry so much about it now.

Everything seemed to be back in balance with the dead now, too, which was a relief. That had put him in an incredibly uncomfortable position, unable to sleep or focus. He'd almost driven himself mad with it. He knew at some point he needed to go and visit Lydia and talk to her about what had happened, but for now he was happy to leave her in the care of her loved ones.

He was going back to school this week, and so had risen early and made his way to the bakery to get some donuts. It was crowded, as it always was this time of day, but Nico was willing to put up with this surge of humanity because the donuts pretty much rocked. He wouldn't for just any donut.

Dressed all in black with his sword in a sheath at his side, he crossed his arms and made himself as invisible as possible. It was hard to do, but at least with the aura of death that surrounded him and with his posture, he'd discourage people from talking to him.

The cops loving donuts thing was a huge cliche that Amy mostly tried to avoid indulging, at least back in Brooklyn. It didn't seem as bad here in Madison Valley though, so at least once a week, she made it a point to stop by Horst's and pick up donuts on her way to the range.

From what she'd seen on the network, people were back to themselves now and she was debating if she should pick up extra donuts and stop by the guns and ammo shop to check on Chris when she noticed the boy in front of her. There was something odd about him, but she couldn't put her finger on what it was.

"What's your favorite kind of donut?" she asked.

Great. So he couldn't avoid people talking to him no matter what he did. Probably because he was a kid. Hopefully, when he got older, things like this would get easier and people would actually decide to leave him alone. That would be awesome.

But the best way to escape this now was simply to answer her questions.

"Chocolate. With chocolate frosting."

How could you go wrong with that?

"Have you tried a Boston Creme?" Amy asked. "Chocolate frosting with delicious pudding filling."

She wasn't sure what prompted her to talk to him. He clearly didn't want to chit chat and she wasn't really the kind of person who generally indulged in pointless small talk. Being in this town was changing her in some ways, possibly for the better.

"Yeah, they're pretty good too," he said. All donuts were pretty good, really. He liked pretty much all of them. "But they're super messy, too, especially when you have to shove them in a bookbag or something for school."

When you did that, pudding got everywhere and it was just bad news all around.

Amy couldn't argue with that. "And the last thing you want is pudding getting all over your notes. Or binders. Or other supplies."

Okay, maybe that part was just her and her slightly inappropriate love of stationary and writing implements. "The little donut holes are pretty hardy for that kind of thing though."

Nico didn't care so much abut his binders and school supplies, but he did care about everything getting sticky with pudding. And since he didn't even have running water in his cave it was hard to clean up.

"Yeah," he said. "But I don't think they have Boston Creme donut holes? Or donut holes with frosting." And he liked frosting. A lot.

Boston Creme donut holes would probably be difficult, but Amy wasn't sure why there wasn't such a thing as donut holes with frosting. "I think you're right, but maybe we should suggest they add frosting. Because everything is better with frosting."

Unless it was the weird spicy frosting that Boyle had been planning to use on his wedding cake when he was engaged to Vivian. Amy had nightmares about that.

"Totally," he said. "But they would be kind of hard to hold without getting stuff all over you." And he wasn't super neat or anything, but, alas, no running water.

"Maybe if they put them on sticks or something?"

"That's brilliant!" Amy said.

Then she paused. "Wait. Did we just invent cake pops?"

Nico paused. It certainly seemed like that was exactly what they'd done. But he didn't like that idea.

"Nope. Donut pops. TOTALLY different."

Amy wasn't sure there was really a fundamental difference, but she wasn't going to argue. It was too early in the morning for that. "We should open our own bakery and sell donut pops."

Except for that pesky issue where she was incapable of cooking or baking edible food.

"That would be awesome. Can you cook? Because I totally can't."

He'd never cooked a meal for himself in his life, and he was a fourteen year old boy. And not one of those freaky ones on Chopped or something that were crazy good chefs.

For a brief moment, Amy thought about lying. Then she realized how absolutely ridiculous that would be.

"No, sadly, it's not a skill of mine," she admitted. "I guess we'll just have to eat regular donuts." And their chatting made the line move even faster so it was her turn at the counter.

She placed her order and then turned to the boy. "And whatever he's getting."

Nico had money, but it was still super cool that Amy wanted to pay for him. He even attempted a little smile for her, which was a HUGE deal.

"Thanks," he said. "I'm Nico."

"I'm Amy," she said, pulling out her wallet to pay for their orders. "Enjoy your donuts, Nico."

She could totally make friends. Even if it was with a teenage boy.
