Who: Georgia and Presto
What: Mistaken identity
Where: Their apartment
When This morning
Warning: None
Presto had woken, and stretched, and rolled out of bed, the blankets covering Erin as he headed for the shower. A wave of a hand and a magic spell started breakfast cooking as he padded into the bathroom and started the water.
He was quite happy to be enjoying these first days of warmer weather, and hoping that Erin would be healed soon, so they could enjoy it together. Fun times outside, and sex, both beckoned to them.
It had been a crazy year so far, and he was hoping it would get better.
***
It had been a weird day for Georgia. First she received sympathy flowers, then there was that sky message, and then that random girl at her door. She thought it was Mark playing with her the entire time because she’d broken up with him until he showed up and explained things. After a little talk about their break up and how they could fix things, with his friends standing right there, they decided to get back together.
She went to sleep later that night in his arms feeling the happiest she’d ever been. Needless to say, she was pretty confused when she woke up in a place that wasn’t her bedroom. This wasn’t Mark’s bedroom either. Wearing the PJ’s she’d fallen sleep in, she got up out of the bed and looked around the room. When she heard the shower running, she began towards that direction. “Mark?” She called out, thinking it was probably him in the shower. It was the only thing that made sense.
***
Presto heard something outside the shower and called out softly. “I’m in here!” The hot water pounding down on his head made it hard to hear, so he didn’t make anything else out. And Erin was always welcome in the shower when he was in there, as far as he was concerned. He grinned and opened the shower curtain to peer out, and see what was up.
The sight of someone who looked like Erin and was not, but younger, and with dark hair, wearing some kind of pajamas, made him stare, then whip the shower curtain back into place as he shut off the water.
“What the--- who are you?”
Damn the dome!
***
The voice sounded muffled and Georgia couldn’t tell who said it so she wandered closer. Just as she got to the bathroom, where the door was open, the shower curtain opened to reveal someone who was definitely not her boyfriend. She let out a little scream and covered her eyes as she turned her back to the shower.
“I’m Georgia and you are definitely not Mark” She kept her back to him even when she heard the shower turn off. She wasn’t going to turn around until it was clear. “What the hell happened? Where am I?” She asked as she lowered her hands and stared at the wall in front of her.
***
Presto snapped his fingers and he was dry, and his clothing shot to him, and onto him. After he was dry and clothed, he stalked out of the shower, eyed her and listened. And sighed. She looked a lottttt like Erin, damn it.
“Ah, well, I am clothed now. My name is Presto, you’re in Madison Valley, and apparently the Dome is playing tricks on me today.” His face fell and he sighed.
“Do you drink coffee? I need coffee. Breakfast is also cooking.”
He slipped past her and crooked a hand in invitation.
“I’ll tell you everything I know about the place, and maybe we can figure out what fuckery is going on.”
***
“That was fast” She commented as she turned around. He did it so fast that it was almost like magic. She wasn’t going to touch on that right now and focused on the matter at hand; figuring out where she was. “Dome?” She asked before she nodded her head when he asked about coffee. “I could go for a cup” She replied as he passed by her.
Without question, even though she didn’t know this guy, she followed him anyway. She really had no choice in the matter because he seemed to know what was going on. She had to follow the information and see what it lead her. All of her questions that she was going to ask were side riled when she saw the dog on the kitchen. “Oh hello. Aren’t you cute” She cooed as she bent down to pet him.
***
“I’m a wizard. I can do little things quickly.” he grinned as he nodded and led the way.
In the kitchen, he waved a hand, pouring coffee into two cups, even as he checked the food that had been cooking and began to plate it. He had been making enough for two, anyway, so… As he worked, he talked.
“The Dome. We are all of us, and there are quite a few, brought here by some powers that be that many of us just call the Dome, which does not announce itself, or take credit for anything, or respond to anything we do. We can’t leave a certain radius, and can’t escape, though sometimes people are sent home or brought here randomly.” he waved toward her as an example. “Sometimes, those people replace others who they are duplicates or dopplegangers of. You, for example, look a lot like my girlfriend, which is why, I imagine, the dome dropped you into our bed in her place.”
He sighed as he carried the plates to the table, nodding to her.
“No time passes back home, when we are here, and if we ever go back, it is as if we were never gone.”
He smiled as she saw the dog.
“That’s Booker.” he put some food on the floor for Booker, petting the good dog as he sat.
***
“A wizard?” She looked at him like he was crazy. “Yeah okay and I’m a lawful good halfling paladin” She remarked with a laugh and a shake of her head. It was clear that the girl played D&D and that she wasn’t afraid to show it. And why would she be? She was pretty proud of her lvl 35 chaotic evil half elf ranger with a thirst for blood. There was nothing wrong with being a nerd if you asked her.
The magic went unnoticed at the time because her focus went right to the dog, who she pet while she listened to him. “This sounds like something straight out of the Stephen King novel” She commented, smiling was she scratched the dog on his ears. He was a friendly little guy and he seemed to really like her. “I look like your girlfriend?” She asked, looking over her shoulder at him.
When she saw there was food on the table, she left the dog alone and stood up. “He seems like a good boy” She said of the dog as she moved to sit down and eat.
***
Presto eyed her. “You do look like her, yes. Some.” he rubbed his face. Damn it.
“I am a wizard. I’ve paid the price for my magic in blood and tears.” He sighed and snapped his fingers and shook his head and the chair next to her wiggled, shifted, and stood up, reached out to gently straighten the drapes, moved over to pat her on the knee, and then walked to the wall where it became a table.
“Magic is real. Be careful who you insult in this town. You can end up very unhappy.” he shook his head. Another closed-minded one. Damn.
“You are not in your world, anymore. The rules you think you know are no longer valid.”
***
“‘That’s so weird” She commented as she sat down when he confirmed that she looked like his girlfriend. Grabbing the fork that was laid out, she was about to eat when he began doing magic right in front of her. The fork dropped onto the table and her mouth dropped as she watched the chair do it’s thing. She was quiet as it happened then she turned towards him when it was all done, awe on her face.
“You weren’t kidding” She replied before she got a smile on her face. “That was amazing!” She exclaimed, excited about what she saw. When he began talking to her like that, she held up her hands in a ‘I’m sorry’ way. “Listen, where I come from, magic isn’t real so I had no reason to believe you when you said you’re a wizard, okay? The closest I got to magic back home was when I play D&D and Legacy of Wyvern. I’m totally a believer now”
***
“It is. And I am sorry for snapping. One of the things that is always a fear here is that people might get sent home. I was just hoping it would never happen to Erin.” he sighed and rubbed his face. “I shouldn’t have taken that out on you.”
He chuckled. “I grew up playing Dungeons and Dragons, too. A magical ride held a portal inside, and took me and my friends to a world full of all the things in the game, which is where I learned how to do magic.”
He shook his head again.
“Anyway… ah. Eat, then ask me more questions about the town?"
