Finn smiled as he headed out, entirely ready to see someone who was his general, and now, was becoming his friend. Which made him goggle still. He liked her and her way of doing things, and he enjoyed talking to her, a lot. She inspired him. And he hoped he could help her, in turn.
He was waiting at the Horst’s, having invited her for coffee and lunch, and he was looking forward to a nice day.
***
Leia was adjusting fairly well to life in Madison, it was a slower pace which was welcome in some aspects though she was realising she definitely needed something to do soon. Her restlessness was starting to press on her a little more each day.
Meeting Finn for lunch was going to be lovely and she was very much looking forward to it. He’d grown so much in the time he’d been with the resistance and she was so proud of him. Entering the place he’d mentioned to her she spotting him and smiled, “Finn, it’s good to see you”
***
“Leia! General. It’s good to see you, too.” He smiled warmly at her, and beckoned her to the table. “How are you doing? Settling in?” he hoped so, he had great hoped she would like it here. Seeing her here had done wonders for his confidence and sheer happiness.
He just wanted everyone to be as happy as he was.
***
“Just Leia” she told him affectionately as she sat down, “I am thank you, it took a while but I’m getting there now. I need to find something to do soon, I’m getting restless” she admitted with a wry smile.
She loved seeing how confident he was here, it was something she wanted to encourage. And of course his happiness was very heartening to see. Their lives back home were so hectic and fraught that it was good to get a break.
***
Finn smiled to her and nodded. “I’ll try. Not going to be easy, but I will try.” He smiled as he listened to Leia. She seemed content and settling well, and he liked seeing her like that. She was a strong and smart woman, and he felt like he could use her influence in his life.
“What do you like doing? When not changing the galaxy?”
***
“Thank you, I know it may take some time to get used to” Leia told him, she knew Poe would struggle too but here she wasn’t their General she was simply their friend.
“Honestly, it’s been so long I’m not sure I know for sure” Leia admitted, “There has always been some kind of cause to fight for. Though as a young child I used to read extensively, and I grew things in a little garden I had” It had been years since she had thought of her childhood on Alderaan.
***
Finn nodded, but he smiled at her. “It is, but it is also… a chance at a new start and a new hope, in a way.” He smiled wryly. “I’ve been lost here, and yet people have helped me find myself, learning new things I never dreamed of learning.” His eyes fill with warmth as he thinks of Mary.
“I’m sure there are things to fight here, even so. If you still want to fight, there are probably things to fight. But if you want to rest… I think no one can say no, here.” He spoke with a soft certainty, filled for a moment with sheer hope.
***
“I’m so glad you’ve found opportunities here, you deserve them” Leia told him, “And the people here do seem genuinely very kind”
She smiled at his words, “I have to admit a rest would be good, I’d like to help of course but maybe in a less...intensive way than I have done in the past” She always wanted to be useful, naturally. A rest sounded nice though.
***
Finn grinned at her, “I hope you do too, you deserve good things, too, you know.” He smiled at her, feeling a warmth and peace come over him at this simple but sure meeting, this conversation with her. “Lately, I feel like the whole universe is lining up just right, like everything is syncing together and just… making sense. My balance is better, my sleep is better, and I feel… alive.” He grinned at her.
“And, of course, if I can help you, at all, I would love to do so. Anything I can do for you.” She had helped him find himself, and he felt an honest gratitude for her.
***
Leia smiled, “I am so glad to hear it Finn. It’s so good to know this place has offered such a wonderful opportunity for you and so many others” she said with honest feeling. There may be some odd things which happen but it didn’t feel malicious to Leia, a little mischievous perhaps but she was grateful for the peace they had been offered here.
“I appreciate that. It’s good to know I have you here” she patted him arm, the relief she felt that they had been able to help him escape from the First Order was strong. He had such a gentleness about him, she would have hate to see that corrupted.
