WHO Ariadne & KMart
WHAT Getting coffee
WHEN Sunday afternoon
WHERE Coffee place
WARNINGS tbd, probably none
STATUS MATCHUP | Closed | Incomplete (2/28)

She knew her name, but that was pretty much it. Ariadne. No last name, which was weird, but then again, so was being in an intense sexual relationship with a guy named Arthur, also no last name. The thing was, she felt completely comfortable around Arthur and trusted him. Plus, there was a lot of evidence that their relationship was a kinky and complicated one.

Still, it gave her a lot to think about, so she found herself at a coffee shop on a fairly busy afternoon, thumbing through the network to see what kinds of interactions she'd had with people in the past. Not knowing anything about herself because she'd lived it was weird, but it seemed like everyone was dealing with it in some form or another.

Ariadne got herself a cup of coffee and then wandered over to an open seat, but she realized as she came up to the table that it wasn't' empty. "Excuse me, do you mind if I sit here?" There didn't seem to be any other open seats available and she'd much prefer to drink her coffee inside.

Ariadne wasn’t the only one in that boat -- she was going to have to share her paddles. Dahlia knew her name and that was just about it. And Wes. She had him. Except…

Except this whole thing was starting to give her a damn headache. She wanted to know more than just the little she knew, which she was pretty sure meant she was naturally curious. She hoped, anyway, or else it was one more thing to add to the list of shit that was giving her a damn headache.

One thing seemed to be constant, though, and that was coffee. So she went to the coffee shop and got a cup of coffee, finding an empty table with luck. “Not at all,” she said to the other young woman when somebody approached. “This place is stupidly busy. I wonder if it always is.”

"I honestly am not sure," she replied, grateful as she took the seat. She was just glad for a place to sit and the company would end up being a good distraction, too. "But I guess it wouldn't be a bad way to make a new friend here or there," Ariadne added with a small smile.

"My name is Ariadne. That's...about all I know about myself," she admitted before she took a sip of her coffee. "And, apparently, I like coffee." She had to grin at that, though she knew a little bit more about herself and she wasn't sure that was worth sharing. Ariadne was still trying to figure out how she felt about all of this herself and she had enough of a feeling that people weren't going to be all that receptive to it.

"My Saturday afternoon was kind of eventful," she admitted. "And yours?"

Dahlia juststifled a grin. "Yeah, we could say mine was eventful."

Because Wes.

"But today, not so much. Just coffee, trying to fiure this place out, and meeting somebody new," she said with a nod towards Ariadne. Never mind that at the moment, everybody was new. She was being social, and Ariadne seemed to be a nice person.

And Dahlia liked to think she was a good judge of people. She was hoping she was. It seemed like she might be.

“I kind of like it,” Ariadne admitted. “It’s weird, not knowing anything about the people I’m meant to know or my own history, but it’s nice to start over. What if we’ve all had something horrible that’s stopped us from being happy? Now we just are.”

It probably wasn’t the way most people were approaching this, but Ariadne found it more comforting than freaking out. So far, it seemed like she and Arthur would be able to figure things out together if either of them weren’t sure about something. For her, knowing that she was Arthur’s sub made her feel comfortable and secure in asking him for help or guidance. Even if he didn’t know anything more than she did, she trusted that he had her best interests at heart.

"I think it's a little too... unsettling... to actually be happy with it," Dahlia said. "Like I'm not used to this much happy opportunity being handed to me automatically. But I don't think it's a bad thing, I just... need to see it play out a little more first."

She took a sip of her coffee. "Because I've got a lot of good in my life right now. I'm not at all complaining. I just don't feel like I can accept it all blindly right away. But at the same time? I am all about everyone else finding their own happy."

Yeah, she wasn't at all sure she made sense.

Ariadne could understand that aspect of it. She had Arthur though so she was more willing to trust what was happening around her because of it. "I can't say I was expecting to wake up the way I did yesterday, but my boyfriend and I are happy together." It was unconventional in a lot of ways. Way more than she'd thought she'd be comfortable with. But she was, so that was how they were.

"As long as you're not closing yourself off from being happy just because we're all lacking our memories," she cautioned. She didn't want the other woman to miss out on something just because they didn't have their memories.

"I'm Ariadne, by the way."

"I'm Dahlia." She hadn't been entirely sure about the name at first, and she still wasn't entirely sold on it, but it was at least a nice name. Not one of these hideous names you saw on some Top 10 Trendy Baby Names list.

Did sound kind of like an old woman name, though. Whatever. It was still pretty.

"And no, not closing myself off. More like... tugging the door shut just a little so I don't get rushed full force by anything."

She shrugged and took another sip of her coffee. "I guess the really important part is that when I woke up next to somebody, I felt immediately like I trusted them. Just take that and go from there. Everything else, everybody else, just... go from there. All the other people and all the other things... they'll fall into place somehow."

Dahlia liked that idea, anyway, the idea that she didn't have to worry about it. Which she somehow knew didn't mean that she wasn't concerned at all. That she somehow knew just meant she wasn't going to panic or obssess.

Piecing yourself together like this was migraine-inducing, oof.

That made sense. It was kind of the same approach she and Arthur were taking in terms of figuring out if they had new boundaries now that they didn’t have any memory of each other. “It was the same for me and Arthur,” she admitted. And she’d been restrained, tied against the headboard. That didn’t exactly scream trust, but she’d been held in place by silk ties and neither the position nor the fastenings hurt.

“It’s easier for me to think of it all as a fresh start or a clean slate. Who knows, maybe we’ve never met before now but what if we had? What if we’re best friends or mortal enemies or something?” Ariadne didn’t think she was the sort who had mortal enemies, but it was always a possibility. “But now we’re talking and getting along well. Maybe that’s not so bad.”

Dahlia tilted her head thoughtfully. "I like the idea of people getting along with their enemies," she said. "Whether it'd be you and me, or those two over there -- " she gestured to two random people. " -- or anybody else in town. It's just interesting food for thought."

Because what about the relationships people fell into during all of this? What if the people they thought were their significant others weren't really?

That was also something to think about, but not now. Not for a long time, if she had her way with it.

Ariadne hadn't quite connected those dots, in part because she knew that Arthur was the person she was meant to be with. She took a sip of her coffee as she thought about what to say next but her phone buzzed kind of loudly. She'd almost forgotten about it.

"Sorry," she said as she fished her phone out of her pocket. She quickly read the text message and frowned. "I have to go." It was said distractedly as she tried to think of what to do next. "My dog, something's wrong I think. My boyfriend is being kind of vague but..." She had to go. Ariadne wasn't going to leave Arthur by himself to handle whatever was wrong with Pinto.

"Thanks for sharing your table!" With that, she gathered her things and headed out in the hopes that whatever it was, it wouldn't be too bad.
