Jason hadn’t really talked to his sister since Lindsay left. He hated that fact, but it wasn’t like he could just show up at her house or something when there was just as much chance that Castellan would answer the door than that she would. And that would definitely not end well.
This morning, he’d finally sent her a text asking her to meet him - alone - at Roger’s Corner after school. They had awesome milkshakes there, and it wasn’t usually as crowded as Hinkles, so it was easier to talk.
He went there immediately after school, taking a table for four. Putting his heavy bookbag in a far seat, he sat down next to it. Anxiously, he pulled a golden coin with Latin writing on it out of his pocket and began dancing it over his fingers as he waited for Thalia to arrive.

Thalia had veered back and forth several times between hope, despair, and even annoyance over the fact that Jason couldn’t forgive Luke for what he had done. Never mind that it had been Kronos that had done most of the killing: the fact that Luke had been the one to bring Kronos back was, in his eyes, the unforgivable act.
For the sake of her sanity and her relationships, she’d accepted that her brother and her husband would never get along. It sucked, but there were some things she just couldn’t control. And really, as far as Greek family tragedies went, this one was probably one of the tamest.
She arrived early, as was her habit, but Jason was already there. Typical Roman.
“Hey,” she said, going over to hug him. Neither of them were huggers, but she’d missed out on too much of the hugging when he was a baby to not greet him with one now.

He wasn’t really comfortable with hugging, but as long as it was Thalia, and only Thalia, he’d take it. They had missed too much time when he was little and they had a lot of stuff to make up for. Quickly, though, he pulled back and sat back down.
“Hey,” he said, rather lamely. “How are things?”
He’d really asked her here to talk to her, to hear how things were going, to tell her how things were going for him. But he didn’t want to start with himself. That would just be rude, and well, talking about it was still uncomfortable.

“Oh, you know,” Thalia said, waving her hand vaguely. “The usual. Peaceful. Kinda boring.”
To be honest, Madison was boring to a demigod, who’d been literally bred for fighting. Without constant battles, their battle-ready senses tended to manifest as ADHD, which made it difficult to function in a sleepy town like Madison at times. Although Thalia didn’t miss the world-ending threats like the Titans and Gaea’s uprising, sometimes she wished there were more portals or vampires coming through them.
“What about you? Go through any of the portals?”
