WHO: Weiss Schnee and Thalia Grace
WHAT: Meeting in the woods/Matchup
WHEN: Tuesday afternoon
WHERE: The woods
WARNINGS: None really
STATUS: Closed/Matchup/Complete
Now that the fair was over, Weiss could go to more important things. One of them was practicing her Semblance. She hadn't done that in months, what with taking over Anna's gelato shop and now taking college courses, she just simply hadn't had the time. Today, however, she did and she was definitely going to take advantage of it. She didn't need to hone her skills, since there was no Grimm here to hunt and kill, but she figured she should still do it anyway.
She found her old spot, a clearing in the woods, and began. She took out her rapier just in case the Grimm got out of control and she needed to kill it quickly. Closing her eyes, she concentrated and a huge snowflake-shaped Glyph appeared on the ground in front of her and a giant bird-like creature appeared, glowing a white-ish blue color, indicating it was under her control. Grimm were usually black with white and red masks on their faces.
She opened her eyes and stared at the bird and waited. But after a few moments, it didn't attack her and just simply hovered above the ground. Suddenly, as if hearing something, it cawed in the direction behind her. Weiss immediately told it stay, which it did, and turned to see a girl.
"Oh, hello," she greeted her. “Don’t worry about the Grimm, it’s under my control.” For now, at least, but she decided not to say that.

With all the various people with various powers here, Thalia often ran into weird things in the woods. It was still cool, though, every time she ran into something new. This Grimm thing was entirely new, and she looked at it with more interest than worry.
“That’s nice to know,” she said. Her hand was in her pocket, where a bottle of mace sat. With a word, she could pull it out and turn it into her spear. She hoped she wouldn’t have to, though. “What is it?
***
It was a bit strange to not see someone panic when seeing a Grimm. They were monsters and considered dangerous. There were people who hunted and killed them. Weiss wasn't quite there yet but she was training to become a Huntress. At least, she was before she came here. There wasn't any to hunt anymore.
"It's called a Grimm," she told her, letting her sword fall to her side. "They're monsters from my world. We have people called Hunters and Huntresses who kill them. They don't usually look this this, though." She gestured to the white-blue bird hovering behind her. "Like I said, this one is under my control. I can summon monsters I've killed before and have them fight for me."
***
“That’s handy,” Thalia remarked. “I’m a Hunter - was a Hunter - and all I got out of the monsters I killed was a lot of stinky carcasses.”
Despite her casual words, she’d perked up with interest. There were people around who hunted monsters, but there weren’t many who were Hunters with a capital H. For all that she was no longer a Hunter herself, she still felt an affinity to them.
***
"It is, but it's something I haven't quite got the hang of yet." Unlike most Semblances, hers was inherited and the rest of the Schnee family had the same powers as well. Weiss had only recently begun to do the Summoning part, which her sister could do a little better. Weiss sometimes wished she was here because she didn't always get it right.
"Are you?" she tilted her head in interest. Obviously not in the same sense as Weiss and Nora were. The girl didn't know about Grimm. "What sort of monsters did you hunt?"
***
“Manticores, drakon, that kind of stuff,” Thalia explained. “Basically whatever monster escapes Tartarus and decides to rampage around eating demigods. It was our job to send them back to the underworld before they could cause too much harm.”
She stepped closer to the Grimm, her hand still in her pocket. “Do all Grimm look like that, or is it just this one?”
**
"Don't believe I've heard of those," Weiss replied. There was a lot about this world and others she didn't know about. "I take it you're a demigod?" she asked.
She watched as the girl stepped closer. The Grimm must've noticed too as it suddenly moved and cawed loudly. Weiss willed it to calm down, and tightened her grip on her sword, ready to kill it in a moment's noticed. Luckily there was no need for that as the Grimm didn't attack. But it still wasn't too happy.
"No. They're actually all black with red and white masks on their faces. This one is blue-ish white because it's under my control," she explained, hand still on the hilt of her sword. "There's a lot of different kinds too, like mammoths, gorillas, dragons, and so on."
***
Yeah, okay, flying monster didn’t want her close. That was okay; Thalia understood. Most monster didn’t like her close, unless they were the ones chasing her. Even then, they had a tendency to end up on the wrong end of her spear.
“Poor gorillas,” she said. “They get such a bad rap.” At least the ones in her world, who just wanted to live in the jungle and do as gorillas did. Maybe in this girl’s world, gorillas were people-eaters. She wasn’t going to judge - at least not on this.
“But yeah, I’m a demigod. Daughter of Zeus, Hunter of Artemis. Well, ex-Hunter. You heard of them?”
***
Weiss just shrugged. The gorillas here, from what she heard, were okay. But the Grimm ones - called Beringels - weren't. They will attack no matter what and it was up to people like Weiss to stop them.
She shook her head. "Not really. We don't have Greek gods or any others where I'm from. There's these two brothers who created humans and the Grimm, and there's legends like Silver-Eyed Warriors and the Four Maidens." She turned to the Grimm beside her and a moment later, it disappeared, along with the giant Glyph on the ground.
She turned back to the girl. "But I've read a bit about them since I came here. Zeus is the leader, right?"
***
“He rules all the other gods, yeah.” And despite all the issues Thalia had with him - the absenteeism, the sitting back and letting his brother trying to kill her, the turning her into a tree, there was pride in her voice. She’d always liked being the child of the most powerful god, and she had the ego for it.
“So in your world, the brothers Grimm created humans? Wow.”
Okay, so maybe she didn’t have the listening comprehension skills to go with her ego, but the idea of the Grimm brothers creating people was too cool to ignore.
***
Weiss nodded. "What about Artemis? What sort of god are they?" she asked curiously. She'd always been the type to like learning new things and learning about the Greek gods sounded interesting to her.
She didn't say anything, she just simply stared at the girl, as if she didn't hear her correctly. She was pretty sure she hadn't said that. "No, there were these two brothers. The younger one created the Grimm and together, they created humanity," she said.
***
“She’s the Goddess of the Hunt,” Thalia explained. And of Maidens, which was why Thalia was no longer a Hunter - but that was a topic for another day. “That’s who led us through all the monster-hunting.”
“So those brothers,” she continued, trying to get a better idea of the mythology behiind this girl’s world, “where did they come from? And why did they create Grimm in the first place? Seems kind of dangerous to humanity.”
***
"She sounds interesting." Definitely a goddess that Weiss wouldn't mind meeting someday, though she highly doubt that will ever happen.
She shrugged. "No one really knows, but I guess they were there from the very beginning." she said. "It was just the younger brother who created the Grimm. The older one would create life - plants, trees, animals, all that. And the younger brother didn't like that for some reason, so he created things that destroyed - fire, disease, famine, and Grimm. Eventually they agreed to a truce and decided to create one last thing together, which were humans."
She nodded. "Yes, it is but that's why there's Huntsmen and Huntresses. They're to protect everyone else."
***
Thalia nodded. That made sense; humans were somewhere between good and evil, with the free will to go either way.
“So why did you summon that Grimm?” she said. The girl had said that she could summon Grimm she’d killed and have them fight for her. “Is there fighting to be done?”
***
And the brothers did give humans free will to choose their own path.
"No, it's for practice mostly," she replied. "It's one aspect of my Semblance that I haven't quite mastered yet. My sister was trying to teach me before I arrived here. I wasn't quite sure what to do with my time, so I decided to practice in the woods." At least, perhaps, if she ever went back home somehow, she'd have gotten a little better at summoning.
***
“Have you ever lost control of one?” The question wasn’t judgemental - but Thalia had seen enough young Hunters play with powers beyond their control, to disastrous effect. Fortunately, she’d been able to clean up their messes. She just wanted to make sure this girl wasn’t overreaching her powers before she was ready for them.
***
Weiss sighed. She hated to admit to her mistakes. She was way too prideful for that, but she slowly nodded. "Just once," she admitted. "Someone was nearby and the Grimm nearly attacked him. Luckily I managed to kill it just in time." It was why she tried to pick a place that was far away from others. Except Nora of course, who could definitely handle an out of control Grimm.
"But really, the problems I have is mostly just being able to summon them and making them stay," she said. "Usually they just flicker away before anything really happens."
***
Thalia nodded. At least the girl was willing to own up to her mistakes.
“That one looked pretty solid to me,” she offered. That, however, was the more concerning part. Because if she did lose control again…
“If you do summon up a big one and lose control of it, let me know right away, okay? I’m Thalia. And like I said, I’m pretty good at fighting monsters.”
***
"Thanks." Weiss was pretty glad her summoning was getting better.
"I'll be sure to call you." Although she was certain she could take care of it herself, if it got too out of control, she'd either call this girl or Nora to help her kill it. "I'm Weiss," she added as an afterthought.
***
Thalia smiled at her. “Nice to meet you. I’ll let you go ahead with your summoning - but can I see it?”
She was curious to see how these things worked. Any time she’d ever come across a monster, it was already fully-formed. She wanted to see how these ones came about.
***
"Sure." Weiss didn't mind.
She turned and closed her eyes and begin to concentrate. A huge circular Glyph appeared on the ground in front of her. Suddenly, a werewolf-like creature rose up from the ground in the middle of the Glyph. It didn't take too long before it was completely there. It saw Weiss and kneeled before her, indicating it was under her control and ready to fight for her.
"There, that's pretty much all there is to it," she said, turning to Thalia.
***
Thalia watched from a few steps back, both so she wouldn’t interfere with the summoning, and so she’d have some distance to make a running start at the monster in case it broke free.
When it stayed calm and servile, though, she relaxed a little and allowed herself to appreciate the fact that this girl was controlling a werewolfy thing.
“Niiiice,” she said appreciatively. She watched a little longer, then decided she wasn’t going to take up more of Weiss’s training time. “I’ll let you do your training thing now. It was nice to meet you.”
