WHO Evie & OTA
WHAT Wandering around town
WHEN Wednesday afternoon
WHERE Around town
WARNINGS TBD, probably low
STATUS Open | Incomplete

Evie was still getting used to Madison and the rather abrupt changes that she'd gone through. She'd cut the last class of the day because it was her chemistry class and she was missing Doug more than she wanted to admit. It would pass, she was confident of that, it was just a matter of waiting it out. Wandering around town was a good way to get the lay of the land and distract herself from missing Auradon too much. She liked it here for the most part. It was clean and everything seemed to be in really good working order, which was a big difference from the Isle. Technology definitely made things easier, especially staying in touch, and the people so far weren't so bad.

Mal was here, which meant she didn't have to worry about her best friend. Her guardian was pretty decent and she adored Groot even though she didn't understand him at all. She had a good bit of money tucked away for herself, so she'd already purchased a sewing machine and various other supplies. Right now, she was focusing on expanding her own wardrobe, but there were a few pieces she had in mind to make for Peter and Groot. There were definitely some things of Peter's that needed mending.

As she was walking around town, she found various places to sit and just people watch, or else sketch in her notebook some clothing designs. Sometimes, she'd even strike up a conversation with someone just to say hello.

Tauriel was beginning to settle into a routine, which in turn was helping her settle in general. Living with Kili obviously helped, he was the rock she leaned on a lot but it was...fun, living together and just being with each other. She was beginning to embrace the time they had been given and as such it was loosening her up. Some of the rigid elven ways she had were becoming worn around the edges and she found it was rather freeing.

She was sitting near a fountain, half watching the people around her and half whittling sticks into arrows as something to occupy her hands. When a young girl came to sit near her with a notebook in hand she smiled at her and gave a small nod.

Evie smiled in return to the other woman and then did a double take that was probably rude in hindsight. She just hadn't registered the curve of her ears at first and it just stuck out to her. The other woman reminded her of the fae and it was almost a sense of home that she instinctively shifted a little closer.

"Excuse me," Evie began, friendly but certainly a little tentative. She was cursing herself internally for sounding so unsure of herself when she was so much more self assured than that. She cleared her throat and squared her shoulders. "My name is Evie. I couldn't help but notice your-" She gestured to her own ears. "It made me think you weren't from around here?" And therefore someone who was possibly also new to this crazy, weird, wonderful place.

Luckily Tauriel was used to the double takes by now, she'd briefly considered changing her hair but decided she wasn't going to hide who she was. It was not in her nature to do so. And here, so far, she had been accepted.

"Hello Evie, you are quite correct" she smiled, "My name is Tauriel and I am a silvan-wood elf from a realm called Middle Earth. I don't expect you have heard of it, I believe most people are from all kinds of different worlds"

Evie didn't know where Middle Earth was and while she was somewhat familiar with elves, she'd never actually met one. "It's nice to meet you," she replied warmly as she held out her hand. "I'm from Auradon, which isn't really very interesting compared to this place," she explained, not wanting to talk about a fairytale kingdom. It was important to her that her origins were kept secret because she liked not being judged for being the Evil Queen's daughter.

"Have you been in Madison long? I've only been here for a little longer than a week and it's still a bit much." There was a lot to get used to.

"You as well" Tauriel said shaking the girls hand and inclining her head, "I believe not many places can claim to be as interesting as here" she smiled, Tauriel had never seen the kinds of things which happened here.

"Around nine months now. It has been a large adjustment, but it does get easier. Is there anybody else from your world here?" she asked, knowing that Kili being here had helped her a lot.

"That's probably true," Evie replied with a grin. The dome was a weird piece of magic that apparently messed with a lot of people on a regular basis and she didn't really see the point of it no matter how much she heard about what had happened in the past.

"My best friend Mal is here. We arrived within a few days of each other, which I've heard isn't something that usually happens." They were lucky that way and Evie was willing to put up with just bout anything if it meant she and Mal got to stay together. They'd been best friends for the longest time and life without Mal wasn't something Evie was prepared for, even if it was in Auradon or Madison. "Do you have anyone here from Middle Earth that you know?" Knowing someone versus being friends with someone was a big difference. Evie wouldn't be thrilled if Uma decided to show up, or her mother.

Tauriel too failed to understand the point of the dome but since there was no other option other than to accept it, it seemed pointless to fight it.

"That is good, having someone here for you who you can rely on and trust is a great help" Tauriel said before she nodded, "I do. My beloved Kili is here with me, we were forced apart back home so having him here truly means a great deal to me" she admitted, this girl had a friendly bright sense around her and Tauriel liked it. She seemed a sweet girl.

Evie smiled at the way Tauriel spoke of her Kili. It reminded her of Doug and how happy she was with him. She missed him, of course she did, but if he wasn't in Madison Valley, she couldn't let herself get wrapped up in feeling that loss. She had more important things to worry about, like making sure there were enough people here that would have her and Mal's back if either of their mothers got brought to Madison.

"That's so sweet that you guys are getting to have your happily ever after," Evie replied sincerely. She wanted her happily ever after too, but she'd started to learn that she could do it on her own merits instead of marrying rich. It'd take a while, but she'd get back to that place in Madison. She was already well on her way now that she was gathering up all the supplies she needed to make clothes.

"Thank you, I feel very blessed to have been gifted this second chance here" Tauriel agreed, "It is easier to settle with those around you who are familiar. Even though the world itself is far from recognisable when compared with home I cannot deny the new things I am getting to discover and do is very interesting and not something I could have done in Middle Earth"

"I'm sure I'll be alright. I'm nothing if not resilient." Her time on the Isle had taught her that mostly, but so had her time in Auradon. She lapsed into silence after that, more companionable than anything else. Evie liked Tauriel and she was grateful just for that sense of easy companionship, especially with a relative stranger.

Groot was absolutely stalking his newest roommate.

He didn't like her. At all. She had a weird head and she kept trying to touch him. And kept bringing new, weird things into his home. And worst of all she was always in the way when he decided he wanted Quill to be paying attention to him. There was nothing good about her, and he was pretty pissed at Quill for letting her come to live with them in the first place too.

So he was stalking her as she wandered around town, watching her, waiting for her to do something really stupid and bad that would justify him just kicking her ass.

When she sat down on a bench someplace, he ducked to hide, pretty badly, behind a post, scowling at her from his little distance.

Evie had been blissfully unaware of Groot until she caught sight of him trying to hide from her. She smiled, thinking it was some kind of game, and opened her sketchpad to the latest outfit she was working on for him. It was odd that a little talking tree wore clothes, but it worked for Groot. At the moment, she was sketching blue overalls for him and a dark grey t-shirt with green trim along the neckline and sleeves.

Once she'd finished, she turned her sketchbook around to where she'd last seen him and showed him the clothes she was thinking about making for him. He'd look absolutely adorable in overalls. "What do you think?" she asked. "I can make this for you, you know."

Shit! He was caught!

He'd have to be better at hiding in the future.

He kept scowling from his hiding place, one little hand on the post as he leaned around it a little more. "I am Groot!"

Groot didn't want her stupid clothes. He didn't even like the clothes that he had! He'd gotten used to wearing them but they were dumb and useless and what the hell did he need clothes for anyway? Especially clothes from her.

She probably looked ridiculous, talking to a small little tree standing next to a lamppost, but that was alright. Evie had hoped he might like it, but the scowl made it pretty clear he didn't for whatever reason. She turned it back around to look at it herself and frowned.

"Well, what don't you like about it then? Is it the overalls?" Maybe it was a little too confining for a tree? She could just as easily transform it into pants and a little vest. "I could make them two separate pieces so you'd still have plenty of room for movement," she told him, already working on tweaking the design. "Don't you want to at least come see for yourself what I"m working on?" She fully expected him to just say 'I am Groot' again, but she hoped he'd at least come a little closer. She wasn't going to bite.

Groot did move a little closer. If closer meant just coming out from behind the lamppost to flail one tiny little arm at her.

"I am Groot."

Why didn't she get it? He didn't want her dumb clothes, he didn't want her anything, he didn't want her. He didn't like her. And like most humans she was too stupid to understand what he was saying, even what he wanted. He couldn't understand what the hell Quill liked about her, why he'd agreed to bring someone into their lives at all.

And now he was just mad a Quill too. His stupid friend was so...human.

Okay, he was definitely against the overalls, clearly. "I wish I could understand what you're trying to tell me. I don't want to make something you won't like," Evie lamented with a sigh. She set her sketchbook on her lap so she could focus on him. "I'm grateful that I can stay with you and Peter, and I'm not trying to get in the way or anything. I know you guys are good friends. I just want to be useful for you guys."

That was why she cleaned up around the apartment as best she could and why she had every intention of repairing a lot of the clothes they currently had so that they'd be in good shape. Evie knew how to scrimp and save and how to make the most out of whatever clothing or fabric they had on hand.

Maybe she should try harder. It wasn't like it was impossible to understand Groot. If Quill, who really wasn't the smarted human around, could do it, she could do it too. Unless she was stupider than Quill was. Which was a definite possibility.

"I am Groot."

If she wanted to be useful she could stop trying to put him in clothes. The clothes from the Reavers were bad enough.

It was probably a good thing no one thought to ask why Groot was still wearing them if he hated them so much.

She wasn't any closer to understanding him. This sucked. Getting angry with him wouldn't be useful though because it wasn't like it was Groot's fault she couldn't understand him.

"Alright. I'll put a pin in the clothes for now," she replied, figuring that was probably the most likely response she was getting based on the lack of enthusiasm for her designs. "Well, your clothes anyway. Peter needs new clothes. He wears things until they fall apart, doesn't he?" He was such a boy, honestly. It was a good thing she was around to fix things and pick up after the pair of them.

"I am Groot!"

It was good that she was giving up on dressing him, he was happy about that, but she needed to also stop trying to buy Quill's love. He didn't want the competition, and really wasn't interested in sharing his friend. His sort of parent. Quill was a big, dumb human and so was she but Groot had put a lot of work into making him his big, dumb human.

And Groot was protective of his stuff.

At least, though, satisfied she wasn't going to grab him and start dressing him or something, Groot got a little closer, stretching his fingers to help himself up onto the bench with her. As far away as he could be there, but still sharing the space.

Evie heard the emphasis on his name and frowned, trying to piece together exactly what he was trying to say. It was difficult when she was still new to him and Madison. It was pretty clear he was mad about something but at least he'd joined her on the bench.

She smiled tentatively. "It's cool how you can do that," Evie said, trying to find a way to be friends with him. Surely compliments were the universal way to do that. "Is it just your limbs you can extend?" That, at least, he could show her otherwise.

Compliments were a good way to convince Groot to play nicely.

"I am Groot." Of course it was just his limbs. Mostly just his hands, actually. What use would he have for anything else to grow like that? What possible reason could she think of that he would need his feet to grow. Or his head?

At least his hands were good for doing things. Climbing, reaching, hitting. He tried to be good and not hit people as much here, for Quill's sake. Even if they were really annoying.

She was going to take that as a yes because that was all she'd really seen him do. "That's pretty handy," Evie praised, warm and kind. She was trying. Hopefully, it helped and every little bit would count toward making their living situation better. Maybe she could design something that would grow with him for a little while. Surely he would grow at some kind of regular rate.

Evie didn't really know what else to say, but she was content to just sit for a little while with Groot. He was kind of nice when he wasn't yelling at her or anything.
