WHO: Jason Grace and Thalia Grace
WHAT: Training
WHEN: Thursday afternoon
WHERE: The Park
WARNINGS: None
STATUS: Closed/Completed Gdoc
Jason liked training with Thalia. She was good, and she had control of a lot of the same powers he did. A lot of the other people in this place were simply no challenge for him, and that made it both boring and embarrassing. Boring, because he couldn’t really do anything to help himself, and embarrassing because he really didn’t like to humiliate other people. But with Thalia, he didn’t have to hold back. They were an equal match, and her training with the Hunters had made her lethal. In some ways, she was even more dangerous than him - she could throw lightning without it totally knocking her on her butt for the next couple of hours. It was a big advantage.
Right now, they were in a field deep in the park, which very few people used for picnicking. They wanted to damage as little as possible, hence the remote location.
They’d been training for a couple of hours, and Jason was trying to get tired and sore, but it wasn’t at all close to time to finish yet.
Thalia threw a lightning bolt (gods, he was jealous), and Jason threw himself in the air to avoid it. Taking his time floating back down to the ground, he softly alighted close to her and put his hands on his hips.
“You really like bragging about that, don’t you?”
***
“Says the guy who just floated up in the air,” Thalia retorted, tucking her sword against her side. After a lot of practice, she could manage some floating of her own, but she still disliked being off the ground.
She did envy Jason his easy command of the wind, though. As jealous as he was of her Lightning, she wished she could fly as easily as him.
“You done?”
***
“Flying is pretty cool,” he said, grinning a bit impishly. “But it’s not as badass as throwing lightning. I mean, I can do it...if I want to be utterly worthless for the rest of the battle. You don’t even look tired.”
He stretched an arm behind his back.
“Yeah, I’m gonna be sore later, I think. Wanna go get some iced tea or something? I could use something cold to drink.”
And he really wanted to spend some time with his sister, while he could.
***
“Yeah, sure.” Thalia was always up for spending time with her brother, and she didn't even bother to hide her excitement. She'd missed out on too much of his youth, and she wanted to make up for it now.
She put her sword back into its scabbard and went through her own stretches. She knew she was going to be sore tomorrow; Jason hit fast and he hit hard. She was super proud of him for it.
“You can't be too badass,” she told him, reaching up to ruffle his hair, sweat and all. “Otherwise you'll get too much hubris, and we all know that path leads to horrific deaths.”
***
Jason ducked out of the way, but didn’t avoid her ruffling his hair. He pretended like he hated her doing that, but he didn’t really. He adored his big sister and was hoping to make up for lost time with her.
“I’m not really badass at all,” he said. And it was true, he really didn’t feel it. Gods knew he’d screwed up enough times and had ended up unconscious in enough battles that he couldn’t really consider himself all that awesome.
“I just do what I can.”
***
Thalia peered at him. “At times like this, I wonder if you weren’t actually adopted.”
Because that was a humble thing to say, and children of Zeus were very much not humble. Maybe that was what came of being raised by wolves.
Once she was done her stretches, she straightened and waited for him to do the same before heading back into town.
“So how are things with Lindsey? When do I get to meet her?”
***
Raised and threatened with getting eaten by wolves. Maybe Thalia didn't know that part.
“Nah, I look just like you,” he teased, which he found amusing since they couldn't look much more different. Although if one looked closely a certain similarity around the eyes and nose marked them as siblings.
“When do you want to meet her? I mean, we could come over for dinner sometime.”
***
“Yeah sure,” Thalia started to say, but then she paused, and she looked at him significantly. “Are you sure you want to bring your girlfriend over to my place? Because my husband’s gonna be there.”
And she knew exactly what Jason thought of her husband. To say he was not a fan would be a huge understatement.
***
Jason frowned. He hated the situation with Thalia and her husband. He hated that he hated him. He hated that she’d married him. He hated talking about him, but sometimes, like this, there was no way around it.
“Maybe we could meet you somewhere. Just you.”
***
Thalia sighed. It was asking a lot for jason to put aside his hatred of Luke, but Luke was such a different person now. Not that Jason had ever gotten to know him in any circumstance. She wished more than anything that her brother could at least accept her husband. But it looked like he wasn't ready for that.
“Yeah, fine.” She jerked her chin forward. “You go on ahead. I'm gonna go for a run. Let me know when you want me to meet her.”
***
Jason looked at his sister. He knew he should be able to move on, to forgive. It would make him the big person here, and that was worth something. But he just couldn’t ignore what Luke had done. He couldn’t see past the deaths of his centurions - the brave people who had given their lives because of the evil Luke had done.
“Yeah,” he said, sadly. He just knew that this was going to stay between them; that they weren’t going to be able to really be the brother and sister he wanted them to be until they somehow solved their differences over Luke. Jason just didn’t know if he could.
