Kili hadn't just decided to go to the tattoo shop on a whim. This was something he had been pondering for quite some time. After all, in Dwarven culture back in Middle Earth, tattoos and piercings were marks of history and reminders of great deeds done.
He had a few of his own, even.
However, a month and some days ago he had passed being in this strange and wonderful place for a whole year. He had been reunited with his heart in Tauriel. He had made many good friends.
He had mourned his fallen family and grieved that his mother would never know how he was transported and saved.
He had mourned and now it was time to honor.
It was time to honor Fili, his brother and his other half. It was time to honor Thorin, his Uncle who had always been the only father he had ever known and his King. It was time to remember the Quest and what Erebor meant to his people.
It was time to lay down his sorrow for all that had been lost and rejoice in everything that still went on.
Which was why he entered the shop with a small notebook of designs and had been distracted by some of the artwork on offer.
