Who: Sybil Crawley and Harry Dresden
When: Monday afternoon
Where: A diner, then Harry’s place
What: Catching up, a tour of Harry’s new place, etc.
Status: Completed gdoc
Ever since the high of what happened during Prom, Sybil had been on cloud nine. She was happy and things couldn’t be better. Not that she was going to advertise it to the world, since Sybil did like to keep her private life, well, private. But today, she had arranged to have a nice little lunch with Harry and she was looking forward to it.
The outfit of choice consisted of a nice top and a pair of shorts. What Harry didn’t know was that she was wearing a butt plug, in case they wanted to have a bit of fun later. But right now, Sybil was looking forward to lunch as she waited for Harry to arrive.
***
Harry smiled as he stepped up and knocked in her door, dressed to the nines to take her out to lunch and to enjoy some time with her. Sex was wonderful, and he was always horny for her, but he also cared about her, in ways he couldn’t completely describe yet. He wasn’t in love with her, yet, if that would ever happen, but at the least, he was in like and care with her.
He enjoyed being around her, and her munchkin, and he hoped today would be fun.
***
Sybil wasn’t really in love with Harry either, she liked his company and loved the sex they had, but whatever happened would happen. She wasn’t going to rush into things and she knew regardless of the outcome, that it would be well worth it. And even if things fell apart, Sybil would always hope that they could remain friends with benefits.
Yet, when she saw Harry, she waved him down, since she had two glasses filled with wine and a bottle sitting next to the table. And once he got close enough, she gave him a quick hug and a kiss.
“Well, look at you, looking all professional today.”
***
Harry smiled at her, and pulled her to him and kissed her gently. The hug was nice and he noticed the glasses. “I thought I would take you out to lunch, if you felt up to it.”
He nodded to her. “We can just have a nice afternoon, if you feel like it? I have some news.” There was excitement, kept in, but there.
***
“I’m always up for lunch,” she told him, as she kept her arms wrapped around his neck. This just felt right.
“And a nice afternoon sounds perfect. You’re always welcome to go back to my place if need be,” she told him, not really teasing him, but just being considerate, “though I’m excited to hear what your news is.”
***
“Any time I spend with you is good time.” He grinned at her. Harry kissed her slow and gentle and hugged her long and well, and smiled.
“I bought a fixer upper house, one that I can slowly craft to my needs, and make fit the form I want, and I got support beams put in place, and thought I would offer you a tour after lunch. If you want to see.”
***
“I have to agree with you on that. We’ll definitely have to go on more of these lunch dates,” Sybil told him. Lunch with him felt normal and right. Plus, sometimes it was nice to see his face rather than just catching up over the network.
“I would like that. Especially since I am sure we’ll have specific needs it’ll need to be tailored to,” she told him, being vague, since she didn’t want to draw a crowd. “But actually, I’ve been waiting to hear back from my realtor about a house that I may be getting myself.”
***
“I agee. Any time with you is a good time.” He kissed her and snuggled her close, arms enfolding her. “You are amazing, dear woman.” he inhaled her scent and just held her, feeling warm and contented in the doing.
“I like holding you.”
And he nodded again.
“Oh yes? I hope you get to hear soon.”
***
“You are pretty amazing, yourself,” she admitted to him as she loved the closeness and his scent. She couldn’t help but get enough of it. Though the rest of lunch went without a hitch. There was plenty of flirting and the like. But eventually, they got to Harry’s place.
“I’m looking forward to seeing your new place,” she told him with a teasing inflection in her voice, “maybe you could always see if you could put a sex dungeon in there.”
***
Harry waved as they got out of his old, but functional jeep. “There is it. Painting the outside will come last. For now, here we are.” The house was dilapidated on the outside, with two normal stories and a half story. He grinned as he led the way inside. “Flickum bickus.” At his words, nearly a hundred candles lit in the main floor, and revealed it to sight.
The inside main area was a large room, almost thirty feet across, with four artful pillars rising to the ceiling some fifteen feet above, each one looking different. One looks like a golden dragon on its back legs wrapped around a black spire. Another, the closest, looks like a towering woman, wearing leaves and armor as she seemed to hold the ceiling up. A third, close to the stairs, held the stairs up, a glittering black dna spiral. And the final pillar is a pile of puppies nine tall standing on one another.
There were already some repairs in walls and the floor was now whole. A stairway led up to the second level, and doorways led to a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom, all of which showed new appliances in place, but no sign of electrical life.
***
Sybil looked around the new house, seeing the candles and everything else. The candles actually reminded her of life back home, before Papa had electricity put in at Downton. But despite the nostalgia, she definitely did not miss home. She was dead there and nothing would change that. Here was her second chance at life.
“It’s beautiful,” she told him as she took in the sights of everything around her, “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but is there any meaning behind the four pillars?”
***
“Thank you. A lot of work yet to do, but it is at least safe for now.” He grinned at her, feeling confident and bouncy. He had already put a lot of work into the place and wanted to do more. He couldn’t wait to make this place truly a home.
“OH yes. He smiled as he pointed to the closest one. “The woman is Gaea, mother goddess, she who held up the sky before all else, the basis of nature, and the core of most ancient wicca beliefs. From her comes life.” His finger now pointed to another pillar, the dragon.
“The dragon symbolizes power, taking chances and seizing life, making it your own.” He pointed to a third. “The DNA holding up the stairs is a reminder there is magic in the smallest of places, and that the smallest of things can lift the heaviest of them.” He finally pointed to the fourth pillar, the one with puppies, with a smile. “And the last one is a symbol of joy. Little life, little silliness, can make greater joy when we least expect it.”
He nodded as he led the way to show her the completed bedroom, bathroom with an honest to god clawfoot bathtub large enough for two people to be in it, and a separate shower cubicle. As well as a closeted toilet separate from both of those. Finally, he showed her the kitchen, not yet with electricity hooked up, but with brand new appliances, nonetheless.
“And that is the first floor. The second one holds three more bedrooms, three more bathrooms, and the stairs to the attic and roof.”
***
Sybil smiled, she loved it when he explained things to her and how he seemed to just light up while doing just that. Which in turn made Sybil want to learn more about his world and everything of the sort. “Well, they seem to be quite symbolic and appropriate as to why you chose them.”
Then he showed her the first floor and all that it offered, letting him explain everything and she just kept quiet. “It seems as if you’ve made a lot of progress. I’m looking forward to seeing the second floor as you make progress on it.”
***
Harry nodded. “I didn’t just want utilitarian things.” Support pillars were important, but he wanted more out of his place. This fixer upper was already turning into a labor of love. And he wanted her to see and hear all about it.
“Hopefully, it will go simply. Not that I’m counting on it, but hopefully.”
He led the way to the stairs and led her down. “And there is one more surprise.”
The basement was mostly a large featureless room with already existing blocky support columns, and a large trap door in the middle. “I found this when i paid for the place.” And he opened the door and repeated his light spell. There, for her to see, was a room that was all in concrete with a table to one side and the walls covered in shelves. Notes, bottles of odd objects, books, and boxes lines the shelves. In the center was an inlaid and inscribed circle with runes all around the central area.
“When i bought the house, this showed up, my old magic lab from home.”
***
“That just means that the whole process is worth it, though hopefully you won’t deal with anything to challenging,” Sybil told him, “but I’m sure the end result will be worth it.”
But she followed him down to the basement, where the spell was said and the room became illuminated. “Well I guess that keeps you rather busy,” she told him, rather sure she was right, but she liked keeping him busy herself.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the end result once you’re done. Since the house looks lovely and I haven’t even asked if you’re going to do anything with the yard...yet.”
***
Harry smiled at her and nodded as he showed her around his lab, and what he used for magic, then back up again to the main area.
“Working on this place will take some time, but it is definitely helpful for my brain.”
He grinned. It was peaceful.
“Probably, once the house is done, I will worry about the yard.” He chuckled.
***
“I think that sounds like a plan, especially since I have no plans regarding a yard myself if I get a place,” she admitted to him. “And once everything is all finished, maybe you could have a housewarming party.”
Even if it was just a small and private one.
“But I’ll have to repay the favor and show you my place once I find out everything. Even if it isn’t as grandiose as your place.”
***
Harry smiled. “Yes, definitely. Once everything is done, I will work on that.” He smiled at her.
“I’ve already invited my current roommate to live here, Tera. I’ll also probably invite Justine to do so as well, considering her situation. So I will check with them, too. But at the very least, you and Sybbie, and Molly will be welcome here.”
“I would love that. And it will be lovely because you are there.”
***
“That sounds perfect,” Sybil told Harry, giving him a bit of a kiss. She really did like being around him and everything that he had done with the place. “But both Sybbie and I will be beyond happy to be there.
“And your place is just as lovely, because it radiates everything about you,” she told him, “heck, I may have to ask you for advice when I decorate my place.”
***
Harry kissed back, and smiled, then led the way to show her toward the stairs and show her the upstairs. It was not yet finished, but it was still safe.
“I would be glad to help. I’m not a master of fashion. I just… woke up with a dream of what I wanted. And it came out the way I liked.” As he passed the pillar of the woman, he touched it lightly in passing.
“It’s a place of hope. And I am counting on it being one where life wins.”
With a little help from magic, and love, of course.
