Scott had heard stories about Kendra, and little Claudia, and a few other random kids who had come to town once or twice before, but he hadn’t actually experienced it himself. He couldn’t fathom how it would feel, not until he woke up to an oddly familiar and yet unfamiliar scent in his room.
The little girl stood beside his bed, looking at him with big brown eyes. She was very much the spitting image of her mother. And for all the weird Scott had suffered through in his life, especially since being bit by a werewolf one night in the woods, he was completely unprepared for the bottoming out of his stomach when he faced what could very possibly be his future child.
“Uh, good morning to you,” he said to the little girl.
***
Kendra remembered the last time she ended up in this weird place. Though this time she happened to end up at another house. This one seemed to have a lot of people in it, but she finally found who she was looking for...or at least one of them.
"Good morning, Daddy!" she exclaimed, following that up by climbing up on the bed so she could give him a big hug. Or as big as a little girl could attempt.
"Is Mommy here?" Last time she was here, she found her mom first. It was so weird they didn't live together!
***
“No,” Scott told her. He wasn’t going to lie. At least not out right. He might stretch the truth a little, because he really wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do. “But I’ll call her and we can figure out when we can see her, okay?”
He fumbled for his phone For all the weird he had endured in Beacon Hills, randomly appearing small children was generally not something he had to deal with. He drew a breath and called Kira, hoping she would answer and tell him what to do because he had no idea.
***
Kira was awake already. She had her sword, preparing to go out early into the woods. She gladly put that off when she noticed Scott's name on the caller ID when her phone rang. "Hey you. What's up?"
She thought maybe he was calling to make plans for later. She had no idea of the invasion happening again.
***
“Remember how you told me about the kids that came to town before? How we had a daughter?” Scott looked at the little girl in front of him. “Well, she’s here. With me, right now.” Which was such a weird thing to say. It felt surreal. But there she was, looking at him with doe eyes that were very much inherited from Kira.
***
Kira just kind of smiled at that thought of Scott sitting with their little girl right now. "Oh, it's that time of year."
She'd been through this at least three times at this point. That didn't mean it was something she was used to. Still, Kendra was a cute kid. She was fine with getting to see her again. "Just give me a few minutes to get ready and I'll be right over."
She wouldn't leave him alone too long with her.
***
“Maybe we should come to you?” Scott said. He glanced at Kendra. She was a cute kid. Exactly how he’d picture his and Kira’s daughter. “The pack house is crazy on a good day. It’s probably quieter over there?” He had a point.
And if Clay saw her, what was going to keep him from trying to steal her the way he tried to steal Cadence all the time?
***
Kira had to wonder if that was a possibility, too. Kendra was truly the most adorable child. She didn't think she was just being biased. She totally was, though, a little bit.
"That works, too. I can get something started for breakfast," Kira offered. More likely, she'd probably head over to the cafe nearby and bring something back. She was too much of a spaz in the kitchen.
"It'll definitely be quieter here." She knew how crowded it could be over at the Pack House. "Still, I bet she'll like hanging out there later."
She was still a werewolf child, after all.
***
“We’ll head over, soon as I find my shoes.” Because shoes were a good idea. Werewolf or not, he didn’t generally run around barefooted. Especially with a child in tow. He glanced at the little girl, she was a beautiful mix of both himself and Kira. He hoped she might be a reality some day, but way far into the future. He was nowhere near ready to think about having a kid now!
“We can always come back over here later,” he suggested, holding the phone to his ear by holding his shoulder up, freeing his hands to look for his shoes.
***
Kira couldn't help giggling a little. "Okay, I'll let you look for your shoe then. I'll see you in a little bit."
Kendra, on the other hand, decided she should help once he was free of the phone. "Daddy, I can help you find it!"
She was excited at the prospect of helping with this mundane task. She was definitely her father's child in that sense.
***
“It’s probably under the bed,” Scott told her. She was entirely too cute. She was absolutely adorable, the way she lit up and seemed so eager to help. He didn’t want to do anything to squash that.
“You look there, I’ll look in the closet.” He knew his shoes weren’t in the closet. They were very likely under the bed. He wanted to give Kendra the chance to be successful, and helpful. Little kids liked that, right?
***
Kendra, of course, had no idea. All she knew was that she found the shoe and was quite proud of herself. "I found it!"
She reached for it under the bed. "Now we can go see Mommy!"
Yes, she was an excited kid.
***
Scott acted surprised she’d found the shoe. “That’s awesome. Thanks, kiddo. You’re amazing. I probably never would have found it without your help!” He took the shoe from her and shoved his foot into it. “Now we can go see Mommy,” he told her, and gestured toward the door.
***
Kendra was so happy, she didn't care that things were a little off. She still got to see her parents, and maybe some of the other important people in her life later on.
For now, she was content to follow along with her daddy in order to see her mama.
