Alex had been feeling a little out of sorts lately. No, that wasn't entirely true. Things were the exact same regarding some aspects of her life. Her entire life, she'd been striving to be perfect in every way. Sometimes, she succeeded. She'd been an exemplary student, she was a loving daughter, and she was a devoted sister. She also had a great job back home that she loved. She had a pretty good life.
There was one thing missing, though. Her personal life was non-existent. It had been at home, it continued to be in Madison Valley. She'd been on dates before. She'd been asked out plenty of times. It didn't matter how much effort she tried to put into relationships. They always ended in failure. She did well with it up until the intimacy part. She liked hanging out with guys, she liked talking to them, and going out with them. After that? She didn't feel much of anything.
She thought that would change now that her life wasn't as hectic. She specifically thought there might be something there with Garin. They talked, they flirted, and she enjoyed his type of humor. Their coffee date a few weeks ago had been nice. It consisted of all of those things: talking, flirting, laughter...She made the bold move to invite him back to her place afterward. It wasn't really like her, but she had no idea how much longer either of them would be around. Life in Madison Valley was unpredictable, something she still hated because she couldn't make logical sense of it. It didn't matter. It was more of the same. Things started to get intense and she just didn't feel anything. She put a stop to it and explained how it was all her and nothing to do with him. It was mortifying, of course. She'd been avoiding him ever since.
It was something she couldn't even talk to Kara about. She told her sister it just didn't work out, that they were better friends. She wasn't sure that part was even true. She wanted it to be, but she needed time to hide away in her embarrassment.
She wasn't really sure why she didn't feel anything whenever she attempted intimacy. She told herself maybe she just wasn't built that way. Maybe she was happy with her life and didn't need anything else. Or maybe it was something else, something she kept hidden within herself.
Thinking about it had taken its toll over the last few days, so she found herself in Verdant after work tonight. She liked the loud music sometimes. It was a good way to drown out her thoughts. It would explain why she went to clubs during college, her grades suffering for it. It was an escape.
Too bad her thoughts were louder as she sat at the bar, nursing a drink.
