He made it a matter of course to keep his skills sharp. Fall was on them (albeit still within the ranks of late summer) and while they had no reason to fear a bad harvest or keeping winter rations, he felt it would be disrespectful to not keep those skills. If nothing else, the meat being sold would supplement their income-not a bad thing.
There was a spot by a stream that proved a good starting ground. Waking up just before dawn, arriving there with a bow and quiver of arrows, it was some hours after sunset when he managed to kill a young buck, but the need to dress and carry the kill kept him from celebrating. That he could do easily enough once the meat was sold. Venison was a luxury item within town, and he inwardly made note to not sell all of it towards the bistro, and take some to himself and Angie.
Dressing the kill and burying what couldn't be used for food, he proceeded to strap the carcass onto a makeshift sled and make his way towards the path. His motorbike was locked along the lane and he needed to get to town soon as possible to make sure it remained fresh.
