What is a house-elf? Are those the only types of Elves that exist in this time?

Where I'm from, house-elves take care of all of our housework. Cleaning, cooking, everything basically. There are no elves that are native to this place.

I should not have bothered to hope. Yes, I've been told there are witches, wizards and werewolves here. I have never encountered any of them in my home, but I can't help wondering if they are just as persecuted by humans as Elves are.
