It was a chilly morning, but breathing real air was still something of a novelty, so Clarke ignored the cold in favor of sitting on a bench and sketching the Broadway Fountain. She had a large hot chocolate with her and occasionally paused in her drawing to sip from it, letting her thoughts wander as she did.
The sheer number of holidays that were celebrated around here would never cease to amaze Clarke. On the Ark, the only thing they really observed was Unity Day. Of course, the were so busy focusing on surviving and didn't really have the resources to devote to superfluous celebrations, but she liked the idea of a holiday focused on love. It seemed like a positive, uplifting thing.
At least if you had someone to love. Which Clarke didn't. Well, that wasn't strictly true. She knew that she could be with Finn if she really wanted to be, and part of her did, but their history was so complicated and they were both so fundamentally broken that it would be a bad idea for them to embark on a relationship. Given all the things that Clarke had done, she wasn't sure if she deserved to be loved. Yes, she had killed Finn to save him from suffering and she had irradiated the Mountain to save her people, but did that really absolve her for taking those lives?
Things shouldn't be this complicated. Being in Madison Valley was an opportunity for the kind of life that the people on the Ark were desperate to have, but Clarke was having a hard time letting go and allowing herself to accept that opportunity.
