Somebody made the law. The law changes, and it should change. It used to be legal to own people, or for people of different races to be denied the vote, or to ruthlessly obliterate the environment. If we'd maintained the rule of law at cost to personal liberty, we'd be no better than those who seek destruction. Not all destruction is dramatic; more harm has been done by complacency than flagrant law-breaking, at least in my world. Complacency with power and complacency with the law can lead to the law being valued above truth.
A lot of what they're trying to do, I don't agree with either. However, some of it makes sense. In general, vaccines are mandated by law because they only work if the entire population receives them. Viruses mutate each generation, which, for something so small, is a very small amount of time. If 5% of the population isn't vaccinated against the original strain, that strain will infect the 5% and mutate and therefore be able to infect the 95% that were vaccinated. I don't agree with registration: We have a right to privacy, and I'm not sure if they're being responsible with their vaccinations.
You said you came from an agricultural society, so I'm assuming your population density is less than here. I believe 2013 America has approximately 350 million citizens. Identification keeps a person from committing crimes and running to another state or country to disappear. The drinking age is bullshit, though.
Also, interestingly, it's accepted in 2013 and scientifically proven the female of the species has the same brain as the male. And if that's something you'd say, I doubt your Law is great for women, but here we're the same, just as a general heads-up.
