WHO: Roland Deschain and OPEN WHAT: Braving Walmart at Christmas WHEN: Tuesday morning WHERE: Wal-mart WARNINGS: TBD STATUS: Open/Ongoing
Roland stared wide-eyed as he entered the store. He had been here only a little more than a week ago, and while there had certainly been people here, it had been nothing like this. There was barely room to maneuver in this place now, and the noise - children screaming, parents yelling at them, people shouting to try to locate their loved ones, announcements over the loud hailer - it was a proper nightmare, so it was.
What in the name of Gan had happened? Roland was suddenly and completely on alert, and wished it wasn't a crime in this place for him to be carrying his gun on his hip. His hand went there anyway, only to come up empty, making his heart skip a beat to be so unarmed in this place. It looked like it could very easily become a war zone equal to anything he'd ever come across back home.
He needed some more bullets - that's why he'd come - and unfortunately, they were in the sporting goods section at the very back of the store. He'd have to brave the whole length of the store to reach his objective, but was he a gunslinger or wasn't he? He wasn't a weakling to be frightened off his task by a large number of people. Even if he was unarmed.
The signs he passed, the advertisements, spoke of Christmas. He'd heard the word before, vaguely - something to do with the birth of the Man Jesus. Some sort of celebration for those who followed him. Was this how they celebrated it? What a strange thing, say true!
As he did, he passed the electronics section, only to find two women shouting at each other over some sort of box. They looked like they were about to come to blows over it, and he couldn't have that. He had no idea what it was, but perhaps foolishly, he stepped between them and took the box unceremoniously from the one who held it, looking at them both angrily.
"Control yourselves," he said, keeping his voice the even one of the diplomat he was supposed to be. "What is this to be fighting so over?"
