Who: Anna and Klaus
What: Klaus has adopted a kid and Anna decides it's time for a sit-down with him.
Where: Klaus's house.
Rating: Probably low? Will update if needed.
Status: Closed/Incomplete.
Though she hadn't spoken the words out loud to anyone -- not even Jeremy -- Anna was a little bit terrified of Klaus. She and her mother had traveled with Katherine Pierce for almost four centuries. She'd heard all the stories from her maker about the things Klaus had done. About how terrified Katherine was of the Original. Her mother had been terrified of him, too. They'd always taken extra precautions to keep their heads down, to keep their current locations secret from anyone who might tell Klaus where they were. For all those centuries, Katherine had their unwavering loyalty. It wasn't until 1864 that Anna's loyalty to Katherine Pierce had died completely. If she'd known where to find Klaus, she would've been pretty tempted to go to him and tell him where Katherine was just to get back at her for abandoning Pearl. For abandoning her.
But that was a different world, quite literally.
Now they were in a different place and while she'd been uneasy since Klaus had shown up, her uneasiness about Klaus had long been replaced with uneasiness in regards to the rest of the people in the town. There were a lot of people -- both from that world originally and fellow refugees -- who either hated or feared vampires. And while she did understand both of those responses, it did nothing to make her feel like her life wasn't in danger all the time. That Jeremy's life wasn't in danger. That Elena and Caroline and Damon, and now Stefan, weren't being watched by people who had the power to kill them at any given moment.
Anna didn't sleep much. Fortunately, she didn't need to. When the others slept, she either patrolled the immediate vicinity of the house to make sure there weren't any unwelcome lurkers, or she read. She hadn't been lying when she'd told Kvothe that she'd read all the non-reference books in the library. She'd always loved books and she read as often as she could. She was tempted to compel the librarian so she could take the reference books home. Might not be a bad idea just so she could get an even better grasp on this world's history and major events.
But today as she found herself standing on the Original's doorstep unannounced, uninvited, and relatively uneasy, she remembered all the stories that Katherine had told her all those years ago. Remembered how Klaus had killed Jeremy and Elena's aunt without a second thought, remembered how much trouble and suffering he'd caused most of the people in Mystic Falls, and Anna almost turned and left. Almost.
Her mother wasn't there. And while Caroline might have some kind of relationship with Klaus that Anna didn't understand (and probably never would), she knew it was her responsibility to deal with the situation that had presented itself. She was the oldest, aside from Klaus, and likely the strongest of them after the Original. Not that she planned to get into any kind of physical altercation with him. She wasn't stupid and she knew there was no way she'd win any battles with him.
No, Anna was there to talk. To figure things out. To try and smooth things over so he wouldn't decide to go after any of them because he was annoyed with their reactions to his decision to bring in a human refugee. After all, she'd done the same thing -- except Lydia hadn't been human, exactly. She'd just been a young lost girl who'd been alone. But Anna had known from the start she wouldn't hurt Lydia. That the others wouldn't, either. This she wasn't so sure about.
She was just hoping the end result of this talk wouldn't be having her heart ripped out of her chest. Literally.
