It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Spender would be there, not out of any desire to experience culture -- though there was that, too -- but because Claudia was his friend. He just about always went to museum events now, whether or not he stayed very long.
He snagged a flute of champagne from a passing server, gave a nod of thanks, and continued on with his mingling. He'd been in town long enough that he knew who a lot of people were but he didn't necessarily know them. Sometimes that was irritating, sometimes it wasn't a bad thing at all -- like now. Not knowing someone was at least a conversation starter, if nothing else.
