The museum is, of course, hosting a black tie event for New Year's. The museum is appropriately decorated and still bosting Christmas decorations. There will be appetizers, drinks, a dessert table, a band, and dancing.

Claudia felt rather fancy in her new dress. Usually she wouldn't splurge, but the co-curator had kind of worn her three dresses in rotation over the last couple years and now needed a new one. While she'd always feel more comfortable in t-shirts, jeans, and hoodies her new job entailed a broader and more professional wardrobe. She'd even gone and gotten her nails done for the occasion.

They'd arrived at the event and now Claudia could relax for a bit after checking in on what needed checking in on. With the twins, she wanted to ensure Bex had less on her plate if she wanted less on her plate.

Cosima only dressed up for the black tie events at the museum. And that was only because her wife attended the black tie events, and therefore Cosima went with her as her date. She rarely dressed up any other time (with the exception of their wedding) but she always wanted to make sure she looked nice for Claudia.

She felt rather fancy in her dress tonight, and she did hope that Claudia approved. Of course, if she hadn't, she probably would have something.

"You look beautiful tonight," she told Claudia. "Of course, I'm not surprised."

Claudia didn't have much of a choice with her job, but since she actually loved her job did it matter? Really? "You look gorgeous, babe," Claudia said to her wife. "Oh one second." She spoke quickly to Alex, telling her she could bail in an hour or two if things remained calm.

"Well, I knew you'd look gorgeous, but I can't wait to see that dress on our floor." Claudia didn't flirt, even before meeting her wife, but she did flirt with her wife.

"So, drinks? Dancing? People watching? At some point we're visiting the dessert table." Claudia might have a grown up job, but she loved sweets like a child.

"Oh, we are definitely visiting the dessert table at some point. Maybe at multiple points in the night," Cosima said, offering her wife a smile. If anyone knew how much Claudia loved her sweets, it was Cosima. She thoroughly enjoyed watching Claud eat sweets, too. How she lit up with happiness. Pure joy.

"My dress is going to look even better on our bedroom floor than it is on me, I assure you."

Cosima leaned in and quickly kissed Claudia, "Drinks first. Then desserts."

Spencer was the sort of person who preferred to be home with a good book, however, many of his work peers had decided to go to the museum for New Year's Eve. He decided to make some effort to get to know them better since he recognized that he hadn't been giving them as much of a chance as he should be - that his loyalty to his friends back home. It wasn't logical and when he realized what he was doing decided to try and rectify it. He also used the opportunity to invite Jet as his date

He had a flute of champagne in his hand and was occasionally taking sips - he wasn't one to try to get drunk most of the time unless things in his life were going poorly. Things hadn't been going poorly for a while, thankfully. If only his friends back home could be here to see it.

He looked around, taking in the museum displays which busied his attention. It was always easier to take in the displays than to talk and it was a copout, he knew. Especially since he'd seen most of them before and with his Eidetic memory, he knew them all.

Spencer pulled himself away from the displays and forced himself to mingle, but once he got into the more crowded area of people talking, he paused and looked a bit like a lost puppy. He wasn't sure where to start.

Cami came to the museum to support Rebekah and Marcel of course. She loved the pair and wanted to do her part. The therapist found a beautiful green dress that she thought fit the occasion rather well.

After helping herself to a flute of champagne, the blonde looked around to find someone she knew for a conversation. She'd just broken away from a conversation with Alyssa before she noticed a man she didn't recognize, who looked lost.

"Hello," she said with a smile. "You okay?"

He turned and regarded the woman, but in a curious way instead of a man prone to predatory leering. "I think this is where I say something witty like 'depends on who you ask'." He said it and then smiled. Then he shook his head a little. "I'm alright. I just told myself I was going to walk up to someone and start a conversation, but then I got cold feet."

Cami grinned. "You could, but I'd prefer authenticity to wittiness." She considered his words. "Well that's okay. You're starting a conversation with me."

The therapist held out her hand. "I'm Cami. Relatively new except that I've been here before. No memory of my previous life, but perhaps that's for the best."

Nesta preferred parties at the museum. People tended to not get sloppy drunk there and she could sip on a glass of champagne if she so chose. The high fae found that she didn't crave alcohol. Had she ever craved it or just the escape from her torment? Now she felt comfortable sipping a drink.

She found a beautiful black dress, shot through with silver, and felt rather lovely. Obviously she'd invited both Cass and Amren to join her.

"The museum never ceases to amaze me with how lovely it is."

Amren tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, looking around as she sipped from her own glass. A more refined party suited her tastes just fine. She stood with Nesta and Cass in a glittering silver dress, a statement necklace of red around her neck.

She liked dressing up. Sue her.

"It is rather lovely. This suits my tastes, too." As close to a thank you for inviting me that was going to come from her mouth.

Cassian was, no doubt, the one who stood out the most between the three of them. These sorts of parties were not one that he relaxed in or found a natural rhythm too. It was admittedly easier in Madison to be less on edge because he didn't have to worry about accidentally causing a diplomatic calamity. He also knew that between the three of them, he was not the prettiest one and he was okay with that.

Cassian thought Nesta was lovelier than the museum, but he'd been trying to keep compliments to a minimum in order to preserve whatever improving relationship they had. Amren no doubt picked up on how much Cassian was staring even if he was trying not to be too obvious.

... He was obvious.

But Nesta looked really good in her dress and while Cass could agree Amren looked nice too, he couldn't or wouldn't dare to think of Amren in any romantic way ever.

His hair was in a manbun and he had a specially tailored suit today that fit his wings. "It's really nice." Cassian was trying to contribute to the conversation, but he wasn't the sort of person to look at a building the way the women seemed to be looking at it.

"I thought you might enjoy the museum's party," Nes commented to Amren. Amren liked formal events. And Nes didn't expect a thank you.

Cass didn't exactly do diplomacy (though Nes would argue neither did anyone in the IC), but this was just supposed to be a night for dressing up, supporting the museum, and drinking free alcohol.

She'd noticed Cass staring at her, but Nes tried to not squirm. At some point she knew they'd need to talk again, but the high fae still didn't feel ready to try a relationship. Nes wanted to get to that point, but wasn't there. Thankfully, Cami was helping with therapy.

"I love that Rebekah and Claudia have managed to keep this place running and looking absolutely stunning." A server walked by with some food. "It's fun to pick out who I recognize and don't." Nesta noticed Alyssa and her sad expression, but said nothing.

The black tie events at the museum had always been Chuuya's favourites. Obviously he was too old for the kids and teen parties. Verdant was a bit too noisy for him. And as much as he enjoyed sex, orgies weren't really his thing, and he preferred the old fashion pick someone up at a bar way. The museum parties meant he could dress up - which he did, wearing a black suit that was more fancier and expensive than his every day suits. Which he looked good in, as always.

Last year, he didn't feel much like celebrating because Irina had been sent home a few weeks earlier. This year, while he still missed her deeply, he was in a better mood. Enough to stay for most of the night, which he decided to start off with by grabbing a flute of champagne and sipping the bubbly beverage.

Given Dream was immortal, the significance in moving from one year to the next was lost on the Endless. However, he was the curious sort and while he preferred reading about things rather than experiencing them, the Lord of Dreams was feeling rather trapped at the moment. He was in need of a little space, venturing out, and despite his better judgement, he decided to attend one of the parties to stretch his legs a little.

Because Dream could change his clothes into anything he wanted, procuring a last minute outfit was easy. He morphed his typical attire into a simple suit and tie combination (sans the tie) and dress shoes. Obviously, Matthew wanted to partake as well but Dream told him to wait outside this time, at least until he had an idea of what the crowd might think of bird batting its wings around the food and drink.

Stepping inside, Dream kept his hands in the pockets of his dress coat as he made the rounds, even taking a glass of champagne from the tray of a nearby server to better fit in with the crowd. He finally spotted a familiar face and couldn't help, but feel relieved as he maneuvered through the crowd and came to a halt in front of Chuuya.

"Chuuya, hello," he greeted.

Chuuya was familiar with quite a few people here. He had seen Claudia and would definitely say hi to her before he left, but she seemed preoccupied with Cosima at the moment. He also had noticed Alyssa who looked... probably how he looked last year.

He was glancing at the decorations when he saw Dream approach. "Hey," he greeted the Endless with a rare smile. "I'd ask how your holidays were, but not sure if you bother with Christmas." He couldn't imagine a personification of dreams celebrated Christmas or any kind of holidays or even cared about them at all.

It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Spender would be there, not out of any desire to experience culture -- though there was that, too -- but because Claudia was his friend. He just about always went to museum events now, whether or not he stayed very long.

He snagged a flute of champagne from a passing server, gave a nod of thanks, and continued on with his mingling. He'd been in town long enough that he knew who a lot of people were but he didn't necessarily know them. Sometimes that was irritating, sometimes it wasn't a bad thing at all -- like now. Not knowing someone was at least a conversation starter, if nothing else.

Kayla probably should have gone to the teen party, and might eventually (thought she didn't particularly feel like running into Logan), but she realized she wanted a reason to get dressed up and support her aunt. Besides, she wouldn't drink, so nobody needed to worry about her accidentally overindulging. Or...indulging.

After ordering a club soda with simple syrup, mint, and cucumber, the teen began to walk around. She didn't plan on speaking to people outside her family, but happened to pause near the elder gentleman she didn't know.

"Having fun?"

"I am, yes," Spender replied with a nod and a slight smile. "As much as I'd like to say I wouldn't be here if I weren't, that's an absolute lie."

Because for one thing, he was going to support his friend. For another, like hell he wouldn't take the chance for a couple hours away from work. Entirely possible he'd end up getting a call or something, but at least it was likely a couple hours away from work.

He loved his job, he really did, but he was too old now for the self-serving ladder climbing bullshit of his twenties and thirties. He'd damn well do his best to make time for a life outside of it all.
