Who: Jenna & Carson
What: Grabbing coffee
Where: Starbucks
When: Wednesday afternoon
Warnings: None, but if this changes for some odd reason, I'll update it.
Status: Closed, In progress

Jenna remembered what it had been like when her niece and nephew were babies for her sister and brother-in-law. That need for conversations with an adult that wasn’t their significant other. Back then, Jenna wasn’t fitting the bill for adult conversation, considering she had been a kid, but now she was an adult….most of the time. With deciding to take the week off her thesis, thanks to hitting writer’s block, she was taking some time for herself. To hang out with people and relax before circling back or hoping a break might spark something regarding her thesis.

She had talked to Carson a bit at work and got along with him, so she figured she’d offer to treat him to coffee. Having texted him, she went to meet him at the time both agreed upon. Jenna wore jeans and a light sweater since the weather was getting a bit cooler. This reminded her she’d need to do some winter clothes shopping in the upcoming days for when the snow started. Spotting Carson as he headed in her direction, she smiled once he was closer. “Hey. How’s it going?”

Carson loved his daughter, and he knew from the times she'd been in town that she'd been an easy baby, but that didn't mean he wasn't grateful for the opportunity to grab even an hour's time with an adult that wasn't his boyfriend.

"It's going well," he said with a smile that was just the slightest bit tired. "Though I'd like to say that parenthood is exhausting even when your child's an absolute angel."

He was pretty sure he wasn't actually wrong on that score. He'd seen Adam enough times to know it.

Anyone paying attention could see that the smile had some tiredness behind it. The joy of parenthood, but she also knew parents wouldn’t change it for the world even if sometimes they might say differently, especially during those rough periods. Moving to open the door, she let him go first.

“I think that comes with the territory of being a parent. Wait until she’s older,” Jenna said with a laugh. The two moved into the small line that was waiting to order. “My treat as I said, so get whatever size you want because I’m sure you could use it. Since I’m sure you could use a break from talking about the baby, which, first off, her name is beautiful, but you pick the subject, and we’ll roll with it.” Her hazel eyes looked at him, waiting to see the subject or topic he picked out.

"And I'm going to rule out work, so let's see..." Carson actually had to think about it for a second, because most times work was a safe fallback conversation. "How have things been going for you lately, first of all. I think the only times I've really seen you have been at work and that's not exactly conducive to in depth conversation."

Plus he cared about his friends, and while Jenna wasn't his friend yet, they were friendly and she was someone he could easily see himself becoming friends with.

Besides, talking about himself would only lead to parenting talk.
