Tess hated when Madison Valley tossed more weirdness than usual at them. Knew how to roll with it by now, but still hated it. Especially when it wasn't weirdness she could actually do anything about. She'd tried, once, using the abilities she was forever reluctant to admit to now. All it'd gotten her for her trouble was the feeling like she'd smacked into a mental brick wall because you couldn't control a mind if there wasn't a mind there.
Not that she'd tried all that much. A handful of attempts were all she'd made, and that many only because she'd tested the futility and wasn't going to rely on just once. She wasn't stupid, nor was she naive. There was little if anything she could have done.
But now she didn't have to worry about any of it anymore, which meant it was back to her usual routine -- Starbucks and then work. It was a simple life, when it was normal enough, but it was hers. She'd never really been meant for the kind of overwhelming, life-altering mess she'd become a part of. Oh, Tess was grateful for parts of it, but she still vastly preferred being able to have a quieter life.
Even if she did worry about what was currently going on back home.
She shoved that thought away, at least long enough to get in line and study the menu. She liked mixing her drinks up sometimes, since just about everything was something she'd either never heard of or not had much experience with. It was her version of adventurous, alright?
