It was a typical winter Sunday in Madison Valley. Magnus was dressed up in his warm wool peacoat and winter boots, sweeping and salting the sidewalk, just in case it started to rain or snow this evening. A few people were trickling out of late Sunday services, and he waved to the ones he knew and nodded to others. The almanac didn't call for snow, but it was best to be prepared.
He hadn't planned on Madison Valley. Magnus had planned to live in a nice, but small flat in New York City with his cats. Maybe he would find someone to share his space with him, maybe he wouldn't, but he would be happy with his writing and small desk job in the meantime. And then Alexander Lightwood had fallen into his life. Quite literally had nearly fallen over on to him, and his entire life story had been rewritten.
In a fit of impulsiveness, he'd followed the other man back to Madison Valley and had used the money from the sale of his flat and what was left of his savings to buy and open the Madison Valley Rooming House for Men. As far as the rest of the town was concerned, Alexander was just one of his long-time tenants, and that was all they needed to know.
Magnus was of course lost in thought, again, when someone bumped into him. "Oh, my apologies. I shouldn't be wool-gathering in the middle of the sidewalk."
