Who: Zoro and Lan Wangji
What: Training
Where: Random Park
When: 11/21; Afternoon
Warnings: Low; slight spoilers for One Piece live action.
Status: Closed

Despite the fact that Madison Valley was a maze, at least to him, he was not going to let his training fall through. His whole entire goal in life was to become the greatest swordsman. It was a vow that he'd made to Kuina and one that he planned to keep. One that he wouldn't allow to fall through the cracks just because he was in a strange place.

The work he'd found was... interesting too. It was weird not being a pirate hunter or a pirate, in the end. That was another thing that he tried not to think about. Just as he couldn't actively train with his three swords anymore. The only sword that he had on his person was the Wado Ichimonji. A sword that had belonged to his late friend.

So, he finds an empty park (he probably won't find his way back home again) before unsheathing his sword and starts going through the sword techniques that his sensei taught him. He might not have spiritual energy like some of the people in Madison Valley but he had a great connection to his sword and it was probably evident with the techniques that he was using.

Lan Wangji had locked up the store and left to come home at his usual time for lunch. His brother would be coming in after lunch to take care of any afternoon and evening customers. He enjoyed being a store owner and he enjoyed the fact that he and his brother had the freedom to change their hours however they chose to. Sometimes he worked the first shift and sometimes his brother did. Other times they decided to work together.

This rotating schedule gave them plenty of freedom to do other things that they may want to do in Madison -- like spending time with those they loved.

He walked through one of his favorite parks to get to the Jingshi and saw something that he didn't usually see outside of his brother or Jiang Wanyin.

There was someone practicing swordwork in the park. He stopped to watch, mentally cataloging the things he was seeing and taking note of how the other man moved. He wasn't using spiritual energy that Lan Wangji could detect, which made his swordwork even more impressive to his eyes.

When the man paused and seemed to be looking his way, Lan Wangji gave him a slight bow. "Apologies if I disturbed your work. It is not often that I see someone outside of those from my world with such a connection to their sword."

Somewhere, all of the people who knew him were surprised at the thought that the Second Jade of Lan had started a conversation with a stranger.

Practicing in the park seemed far better than practicing in an apartment. Though, he still wasn't overly fond of the apartment. Honestly? All he wanted was the Going Merry. Even if he doubts that the ship would ever show up in Madison Valley. Not that he's not heard of things showing up. Houses, people disappearing... and other things showing up. (Or disappearing) For now, though, he would be content in practicing with his sword.

When he feels eyes on him he stops and pulls the Wado Ichimonji up, sheathing the sword, and giving Lan Wangji a bit of a nod. He knows that he hadn't needed to stop training with his sword but it wouldn't be nice to keep the sword exposed.

"One should have a connection to the very sword that they use every day."

Wangji nodded. "Yes, I have the same belief as do many from my land."

He moved his outer robe slightly so that he could show the other man where he was holding the still sheathed Bichen.

"My brother and I practice with our swords as often as we can... as does my brother-in-law." It was still strange to think that he could say that last part so freely here. "Only my husband and his sister do not use a sword as we do."

Part of him wondered if they could start training Lady Jiang in the ways of Lan style. He was sure that she had grown up learning the Jiang style, but he had never seen her use a sword. He would broach the subject with his zhiji as he wanted all of his family safe and able to protect themselves.

He gave a slight bow. "This one is Lan Wangji."

"Many from your land huh? Where is your land?"

It wasn't often that he hears someone say 'my land' around Madison Valley. Though, he wouldn't be surprised with how much diversity was in the strange place. Just as he, himself, wasn't fond of being on land. He was too used to being out at sea with the rest of his crew.

"I'm the only one of my crew who uses a sword. Normally, I have two others to go with this one," He states. It wasn't like Lan Wangji could do much about that and it was fine with him. Unfortunately, his other two swords had been shattered by Yoru. He was just grateful that the Wado Ichimonji hadn't suffered the same fate.

He gives a nod of his head at the introduction," Roronoa Zoro, most just call me Zoro."

"I am from The Jianghu. Nowadays it is called Ancient China." Lan Wangji answered him honestly. He saw no reason to lie to this stranger. Additionally, unless a portal opened up to one of the Sect lands, it was not somewhere that would be shown.

"I have never trained with multiple swords, just my spiritual sword. It is connected to me and none other can use it as I can." He tilted his head to the side. "You have been training with your sword for a long time? I see that you are very smooth like water with how you flow into the sword instead of fighting it -- but I detect no use of spiritual energy."

Good or Resentful. This was an interesting puzzle for the Lan.

Zoro rests his hand on the hilt of his sword at his side as he listens to Lan Wangji talk. The other spoke of the Jianghu and he, himself, didn't know much about it. There were legendary samurai and swordsman within the world that he lived in. He also, unless a portal opened, didn't see anyone seeing where he had grown up or where he lived. "I'm from the East Blue."

There was the East, West, North, and South Blue. He, himself, was from the Shimotsuki Village in the East Blue. Though that was a place he didn't particularly talk about. It was also where Kuina had been from too. Where they'd lived and trained together under the tutelage of her father.

"Ever since I was young, yes. About eleven or so, possibly a bit younger." As for spiritual energy," I don't have spiritual energy. Just a connection with the Wado Ichimonji." A sword that no one touched without his express say so. The only time that it had been touched without him giving permission was with Luffy and that had been a special circumstance.

"It is a beautiful sword."

Lan Wangji was as still as the statue he was sometimes called as he listened to Zoro explaining things about his home and his sword. He was an interesting person and one that he would find enjoyment speaking more with.

"Do you come here to train every day around this time or do you have a schedule that you have to work around?"

He wondered if they could converse more and train with their swords together at some point. It would be something different that he could pass al;ong to gis family.

The Wado Ichimonji was a very special sword. So, hearing someone call it beautiful has him giving a slight nod. He was a bit too serious for his own good sometimes. Oh, he knew how to smile and laugh but he didn't do it that often. That had been worse before he'd gone from being a pirate hunter to being a pirate.

"I have a schedule to work around. Though, I'm normally at this park whenever I train."

He'd actually found work at the Fight Science Gym, training others. There? Zoro could train others in the way of the sword. Normally he was a Santōryū fighter, fighting with three blades and not one. However, if the other wanted to train and pass the time then he would not have a problem with it.

"Do you come out here at a certain time?"

He was not a morning person, not in the least bit. Though that didn't mean he wouldn't come out to train if need be.

"I like the mornings but I know that not everyone enjoys adhering to a Lan schedule." He gave a small uptick of his lips that was supposed to be a smile.

"I also like to train in the evenings. It is more quiet. There are fewer people that come this way in the evening -- which works to our advantage." He nodded again. "What times of the day work best for you?"

Lan Wangji was honestly interested and saw no reason that he could not train with Zoro sometimes and see the things he learned. It wasn't as if he were there to try to steal any of their secrets.

"Not a big fan of mornings." No, that was more the idiot cook than it was himself. Sanji could keep his morning routine of being up before everyone on the ship. Even if the man wasn't there to begin with. Even though he said that he wasn't overly fond of the man's cooking, he secretly liked it. Idiot cook made good food.

"I prefer evenings myself. Any time of day where there's less people."

Not because he didn't like people but due to not wanting to be around others when training. Too many people meant that someone could get hurt and he didn't want anyone to get hurt. That was the last thing he wanted.

"It was nice meeting you, Lan Wangji."

Once the other left to return to his family he'd unsheath the Wado Ichimonji and go back to his training. He'd train a bit longer before attempting to head back to his apartment.
