Who: George Lass and Kaz Brekker
What: Match-Up
When: Monday, October 16
Where: Downtown Madison
Warnings: None, probably
Status: Incomplete
The thunderstorm caught George by surprise. She'd gone out on her hoverboard Monday morning, planning to zip around downtown Madison for a couple of hours before she went home to change and then pull a shift at the bowling alley. It started to cloud up while she was out, but she didn't think about it too much. A typical rainstorm usually didn't last all that long.
By the time she realized this was shaping up to be considerably more than a rainstorm, she was halfway between home and downtown. The clouds rolled in fast, dark and heavy and opaque, cutting off the sunlight and making the streets almost as dark as the recent endless night. The wind picked up, filled with the scent of imminent rain, and George feel the mingled anticipation and dread of the coming thunderstorm.
For a thunderstorm it was. The clouds rumbled and flashed, a warning no one could miss. George hurried along as fast as she could, hoping to beat the rain to someplace she could wait it out. But the clouds seemed to burst and a heavy sheet of rain slapped everything around her as lightning flashed and thunder boomed overhead.
By the time George reached the dubious shelter of the closest open business, she was completely soaked. She squelched up the stairs, hoverboard under her arm, and stepped into the building, water streaming off of her. She nearly ran into a guy with a cane at the door, who might have been watching the rain or might have been just about to leave or had just arrived. It was hard to tell.
"I could have timed that a little better," George remarked.
